Translates Test Codes (4.0) Translates tests ordered in the SoftLab ® into codes understood by the instrument and converts instrument test codes with results into codes understood by SoftLab® .

Result Manipulation Options Patient DB Resulting Worklist Calculations Post Instrument Result DB Pipe and Result Adjustment Rules Instrument Menu Interface

Write Pipe Rules The usual translation has to already be on the translation table.Start a Pipe Rule with a vertical bar or pipe (|) in the Instrument ColumnLeave System, Ext and Flt blank Use the general syntax < expression><space><new value> and the specific syntax on the following page in the Description Column.

Pipe Rules (4.0) Item Description Example Rule <expression><space><new value> <10 Negative Expression <operator> <value> <10 Operators > < >= <= == (numeric comparison) = (string comparison) >10 <10 >=10 <=10 ==10 =+++ “And” <operator> <value> & <operator><value> <10&>5 “Or” <operator><value> | <operator><value> <10|>50

Result Modification <expression><space><new value>

Numeric Result Equality Interpretation

Alphanumeric Result Equality Interpretation

Change Result from Numeric to Alphanumeric

Automatic Cancellation of Result

Unconditional Change of Result

Practice Instrument System Ext Flt Description 1 2 3 4 Instrument Sends 305 for test CHOL on tube ext. 33 When Instrument sends “<=50” lab wants to see “NEGATIVE ”. Write the Pipe Rule…

Generate Errors for the Error Table

Practice Instrument Sends 305 for test CHOL When Instrument sends “<=50” lab wants to see “NEGATIVE” . Here’s the Pipe Rule… Instrument System Ext Flt Description 1 305 CHOL 33 Cholesterol 2 |305 (WRONG) <=50 NEGATIVE 3 |305 =<=50 NEGATIVE 4

Exercise The Batch Assay Instrument that you are installing will be running Rubella and Herpes IgG screens. The specimen for all the tests is a red top tube with an extension of 32. 1. The LIS code for the Rubella IgG screen is RUBIG. The Instrument code for the test is RIG. The LIS code for the Herpes IgG screen is HERIG. The Instrument code for the test is HIG . Define these in the translation table. 2. The instrument will send numeric values for the Herpes IgG screen that need to be translated to alphanumeric value. Define the interpretations as follows: • >1.200 should be interpreted as REACTIVE • >=0.800 or <=1.2 should be interpreted as EQUIVOCAL • <0.800 should be interpreted as NONREACTIVE 3. Based on the information given, fill in the translation table

Exercise Instrument System Ext Description RIGRUBIG32 Rubella IgGHIG HERIG 32 Herpes IgG |HIG >1.200 REACTIVE|HIG >=.800&<=1.200 EQUIVOCAL |HIG <.800 NONREACTIVE

Result Adjustment Rules Modifies Result before PostingInstrument Result must meet ConditionOnce Condition is met Action will occur

Conditions Condition Definition Example = Equals =POSITIVE > , < Greater Than, Less Than >5 >= , <= Greater Than or Equal To, Less Than or Equal To >=5 & “ AND ” that joins expressions together for ranges. >5&<10 Error= Error sent Error=H

Actions Command Definition Example Convert= Convert result from old value to new value. Convert=POS Error= Sets an error value Error=H Flag Sets a flag value. Currently the only available value is CANCEL. Enter CANCEL in uppercase text. Flag=CANCEL Precision= Sets precision, or number of decimal places, inside a result value. Precision=2 Factor= Multiplies a result value Factor=100 Prepend= Adds a prefix to a value Prepend => Format= Used only to change format from standard notation to scientific notation. Enter SCIENTIFIC in uppercase text Format=SCIENTIFIC ; Semicolon used to join multiple commands in one Action entry Factor=2;Precision=2

Check Checks the translation table for any apparent errors in the table. The main checks performed are for entries that do not include instrument codes, incorrect syntax, and incorrect extensions.

Build (4.5) Automatically fills Translation table with Reference Lab reportable codes defined in Test Setup. Only active in edit mode if the workstation belongs to a Reference Lab location and flag 62, "Use test setup instead of translation table," is checked. Warning message will display alerting the user all current settings will be overwritten by Test Setup. Confirmation message will display once all updates to the table have been completed
