v Introductionalways wanted to read a novel or enjoy a movie where theheroine was a normal, average-looking woman with an ordinaryt pianist, brain surgeon, underweartime. I want to read about a womanyouom her. In choosing to do this studyÑby yourself, or better still, with aoup of womenÑyou are getting that opportunity! You will learnIf you are doing this in a group, covenant together to make this a,aplace where each woman isto offer advice. (Receiving advice often feelslike people trying to us . . . when all we really long for is to beut whether you are working through this in a grouptake your time!Journal through the questions. After all, thisso much. We. ItÕs true. We live with the mystery of hor-mones. (Often, when it seems we just begin to get them figured out, they change on us.) Most of us lovof us loveagain. WdonÕ, and we really donÕt like ourannual appointment. (You know the one.) We love a good story andlovlovto go to the bathroom in groups. And then thereÕthe other side to us . . . the deeper side. There CSFINAL5/22.QXP 5/22/07 10:59 AM Page v TUDY are times when we wake in the middle of the night to sorrow, lone-liness, and an ache for something more that largely goes unex-plained. We stop at red lights and while we wait, the ache rises to thesurface againÑignoring our efforts to shame ourselves into wantingless. We are women. We think no one really understands. We tendto believe there is something deeply wrong with us. We think that ifwe were better somehow, then life wouldnÕt be so hard, painful, lonely, fill in the blank. But what if the ache is a giftWhat if God is calling to us through the cry of our hearts thaturges us to reach for that Òsomething moreÓweall long for? What ifthe truest thing about us is that we arethe heroine of the story? Really.LetÕrisk taking a look at the Òwhat if.Ó Come, journey with meinto a realm of wonder and possibility, beauty, and hope . . . into thevery heart of a woman.CaptivatingCaptivating:eart to Heart. There are twelve chapters in the book, ten chaptersin the DVD series, and ten chapters in this guide. What does God value? Whatwant from me? What doe are not carbon copies of each other. Not at all. God loves diver-sity and he has fashioned each one of us uniquely and well. But it is athat we are not alone on this journey of life;are womenÑthan we donÕt. We share more than most of us realize.or instance, we have a feminine heart. We have to start there, because as the Scriptures tell us, the heart is the center of it all. Look up Proverbs 4:23 and write it below. CSFINAL5/22.QXP 5/22/07 10:59 AM Page 1 TUDY Think about it: God created you od created manin his own image . . . male and female he created themÓ (Genesis1:27). Whatever it means to bear GodÕs image, you do so as awoman. Female. ThatÕs how and where you bear his image. And notin your body. The Trinity does not have a body. No, you bear GodÕsimage in your heart. Is this a new thought for you?Your heart has been created with the greatest of all pos-eflection of GodÕs own heart. You are a womanto your soul, to the vof your being. And so the journey to dis-cover what God meant when he created woman in his imageÑwhenhe created you as his womanÑthat journey begins with your heart.desire.What are some of your favorite stories or movies? In them, who do youe love reveal much of the secret desires of our deepts. If you take a close look, talk with the women in your life, youÕll find that we share themes in our core desires. They are not allthat we want and they play out differently in our lives, but in herof hearts, every woman longs to be romanced,irre-in a heroic adventure and to unveil beauty CSFINAL5/22.QXP 5/22/07 10:59 AM Page 2 3 It is right that we do, for it is in these desires that we bear theimage of our God.In the DVD, Sue shared that she related to the horse, Pilgrim, in theThe Horse Whisperer. In your own words, define the desire to be romanced.Do you remember some of the games you played as a little girl? What were your dreams for your life when you were a little girl? Whatdid you want to be or do?Allowing yourself to dream a little bit, think about this: If you could door be anything you wanted now, what would it be?Let your mind drift over that idea, imagining what your lifeou could follow that dream, the people who wouldbe around you. Would you characterize that dream role as one thatwould be easily replaced or one that is more on the side of essential? We donÕt have to diminish them or be embarrassed bythem, for it is in our desires that we bear the image of God. Godwants us to delight in him, to seek him. God wants to be irreplace-able in our lives. God wants to reveal his beauty to us and to receiveour worship.ALOSSOFEARTAs a young woman, I, like the women around me, got busy with thebusiness of life. I worked har.Ihigher, and failed more. It is the source ofcourage, and conviction. It is the fountainhead of ourfaith, our hope, and of course, our love. This Òwellspring of lifeÓwithin us is the very essence of our existence, the center of our being.Your heart as a woman is the most important thing about you.
