Flapping wing aerodynamics in micro-aerial: Transcript
v ehicles There is an everincreasing interest in the field of MicroAerial Vehicles MAVs all around the world with recent developments in micro and nano technologies MAVs are defined as small Unmanned Aerial Vehicles UAVs with length scales similar to birds and insects In addition to comparable physical dimensions MAVs also have similar flight mechanisms with those in nature such as flapping wing propulsion . AND . WINDTUNNELS. AERODYNAMICS: . . IS THE . STUDY OF . THE . FORCES EXERTED BY . AIR . OR OTHER GASES IN . MOTION. DEFINITION. WHY SHOULD WE CARE ABOUT AERODYNAMICS?. BECAUSE IT SIGNIFICANTLY AFFECTS THE PERFORMANCE & SAFETY OF MANY OF THE THINGS WE USE AND THINGS WE DO:. Background. Flapping Micro Air Vehicles (FMAVs) as the most intriguing type of MAVs family have obtained a great interest due to their outstanding efficiency and maneuverability. The flapping wings can generate both lift and thrust for an available flight. With onboard cameras and sensitive devices, these radio-controlled FMAVs are capable to implement tasks of surveillance, exploration and rescue. The inherent low Reynolds and unsteady aerodynamics caused by flapping motion results an uncomfortable aerodynamic behavior, conventional aerodynamic theories and analysis methods are no longer applicable on FMAVs. Ultimately, it is always essential to offer the designers and engineers a clear picture about the overall aerodynamic knowledge and useful tool to organize the FMAVs for specific mission objective and flight envelop.. Extendable boom platforms,. Aerial ladders,. Articulating (jointed) boom platforms,. Vertical towers, and. Any combination of the above.. For some, drones and where they can and cannot be flown is a contentious issue, and one not without controversy. Take the case of an American chicken farmer way back in 1942, who sued the U.S. government for flying military aircraft on a runway close to his farm; the farmer claimed that the flights were scaring his poultry and damaging his livelihood, and he wanted compensation. Somewhat surprisingly perhaps, his case made it to the Supreme Court in 1946 and as a direct result, the Court set the limits of private airspace: if you’re a property owner then your property rights go all the way up to 83 feet in the air. In fact, to this day, this remains the only clear federal statement of law as to how far above your property should legal ownership end. The mountainous and rugged terrain of Peru’s deserts have remained something of a mystery for many hundreds and thousands of years, but with modern technology as it’s very best, incredible ancient artwork has now been discovered that may date back from as far as 2,500 years.
