LEARNING TARGETS
I can support my INFERENCE with evidence from text.
I can participate in discussions with a partner, small group, and the whole class. Slide4
What is an
inference?An
inference is a thought process a reader makes to understand the meaning of text, or even an image. When you infer, you pay attention to the details in front of you, and you use other information (from text/background knowledge) to mentally fill in the gaps between the details that are actually said or shown, and what the author expects the reader to understand. Slide5
What is a GALLERY WALK?
Is a technique that allows students to work in groups and brainstorm ideas about a topic.
The walk requires complete silence and completion of a graphic organizer. Slide6

5. Quietly wander, reading one another’s strips. Look for peers who have strips with different numbers than yours. Mix and mingle until you hear the bell ring.6. When you hear the bell, go back to your group
quietly and wait for further instruction.7. Put the strips in the order you think they go in.Slide18
Discussion Question
**Based on the pictures and sentence strips, what can you infer has happened?
**What specific evidence do you have to back up that inference?Slide19
Think about this…
What is home?Slide20
Think about this…
How do critical incidents reveal character?(…about how events around us affect who we are.)Slide21
Reread the strips and connect the idea of home or revealing character to the strips and /or pictures.
