WHAT IS A PACKER LB?
A leader on the field, in the hallways and classroom, and in the community.
A player who has a relentless passion for contact & understands that pain is just part of the game.
A smart player who has the ability to not only control the defensive front but also the defensive coverage if necessary.
A tackling machine because the only thing that matters is getting the ball carrier on the ground and the offense to huddle back up.
A player who takes the small things to heart because he knows it is those small things that make the difference between a defensive stand and a 1
st
down.

63Slide64
PASS RUSH TECHNIQUE
SPEED RUSH TECHNIQUESInitial takeoff is critical for outside or gap rushers. The rusher is literally trying to beat the offensive man out of his stance. The offensive man has to be made to fear that he will be beaten by the speed and quickness of the rusher around him on the outside.
64Slide65
PASS RUSH TECHNIQUE
Grab and RubRusher should grab outside arm and shoulder pad of blocker. As rusher grabs pull himself past blocker.
Simultaneously lean into blocker by dipping inside shoulder. ( pressures blocker and straightens course to QB)
Take big step with inside foot and rub inside arm and shoulder past blocker.
Next step is straight to passer.
65Slide66
PASS RUSH TECHNIQUE
Club TechniqueExecuted same as Grab and rub except the rusher clubs the outside shoulder with the arm and hand in an effort to turn the blocker and shorten the path to the QB.
66Slide67
PASS RUSH TECHNIQUE
Club and Swim or Rip Follow the club technique up with a swim or rip move from the inside arm.

1.WHAT IS A PACKER CORNER?
A Packer corner is a leader on and off the field.
Someone who is greedy when the ball is in the air.
Someone who is not afraid to sell out every play.
Someone who is not afraid to play man-to-man coverage and well as drop into a zone
Someone who is an aggressive tackler on both the run and the pass.
Someone who knows and understands situations throughout a game. (down and distance, receiver formation leverage, etc…)
110Slide111
2. CORNER GOALS
Be aggressive to the ball
No loafs
No big plays
Win the ball in the air
Take advantage of the ability to change momentum in a game.
111Slide112
3. Cornerback Terminology
In phase- Having control of the route and have “cut the rope”. In Man-to-Man coverage this is the time to take a look at the quarterback
Cut the rope-Corners should pretend that a rope is pulling the receiver from the receivers chest to the goal line. Objective for Corners is to “cut the rope” with his hand going across the chest of the receiver
Rear View-When in deep zone coverage, corners should drop over the top of the widest receiver and continue to stay over the top keeping this receiver in his rear view
Third Eye-When cutting the rope corners should use their hand as a 3
rd
eye to be able to see the receiver without looking at them

WHAT IS A PACKER SAFETY?
Intelligence-
Packer
DBs have to be able to think about game situations, the coverage, the formation, and be able to fit into the system.
Accountability
- Play for the guy beside you. This is not a blame game. Own your mistakes and make sure they do not happen again.
Servant Leadership
- TEAM before ME. Give credit to others. Put what is best for the TEAM ahead of what is best for YOU.
Great Effort- Maximum output all the time. Never coast. We must be full speed all the time. We will not tolerate lazy or half speed. Athletic Ability- Best athletes on the field. Must have great speed and agility. Packer DBs will make plays on the football. Strive for Excellence- Never settle for being average or “good enough”. Good is the enemy of great. Being average is like the plague. Avoid it at all costs. Sell out to being GREAT.Confident- Walk on the field with a chip on your shoulder. You own your portion of the coverage. WANT them to throw the ball at you. Short Memory- Mistakes will happen. Learn from it and move on. Do NOT let 1 bad play become several bad plays. Toughness (Physical, Mental, Competitive) Physical- Tackle and be physical in coverage. Physically dominate the opponent. Mental- Short memory. Competitive- Be GREAT in big moments. You earned the right to play in big games. SHOW why you have earned it. Fear cannot be a factor. 133Slide134

SAFETIES TECHNIQUE – Stance & First Step
A. StanceStaggered stance, with your inside foot in front.
Feet are parallel, shoulder width apart with a bend at the hips.
Most important thing to remember is to always have a good base, shoulders over your toes. The stance may vary slightly according to position or ability.
B. Start
1. Start begins with a good stance
2. For safeties, we will take 1 read step and a bounce.
3. Allow shoulders to gradually come up, and stay in front of hips. When leaving your stance, do not lean backwards.

SECTION 2: TACKLING DRILLS
139Slide140
Tackling in the Secondary
There are 4 main parts of a “textbook” tackle 1. Hands:
Your hands should remain at your side in the moments leading up to the tackle
so that you can explode them upward at the moment of impact. You should imagine that
your hands are like guns in the holsters, and at the moment of impact, you are pulling
your pistols. Throw your hands under the respective armpits of the ball-carrier and
squeeze your chest as if you were doing a shoulder fly lift.
2. Knees: Starting from a balanced stance, you should drive your knees upward and intoyour opponent as you tackle. Your knees should continue to drive as you make impactand not stop throughout the tackle. This will help you to “run through” the ball-carrier. 3. Hips: Your hips are the most important part of the tackle. Good hip movement comesfrom first having a proper stance and body position prior to the tackle. We help maintaingood body position by utilizing the “shuffle” technique right before impact, which getsyour center of gravity low enough to use all of your leg power when you explode into theball carrier. 4. Eyes: Your eyes are important for two reasons. The first is obvious, to see what youare hitting. Remember to keep your head up. Never use your helmet to tackle. Insteadwe teach that you use your eyes to tackle the ball carrier. When you are ready toexplode into the tackle, throw your “eyes to the sky” and this will help guide themomentum of your hips and arms at the proper angle to drive your whole body throughthe ball carrier and force your momentum onto his.140Slide141
