Why Should I do Band?Slide4
National ResearchFrom the Dana Consortium Report on Arts and CognitionMusicians scored better compared to non-musicians on a test of long-term verbal memory, but this advantage disappeared when the students were prevented from going through the activity of rehearsal.
Children with early training in music had a higher degree of phonological awareness (auditory skill correlated with reading ability) that children with no musical training.Intensive music training is associated with improved performance in the core mathematical system for representing abstract geometry.

ACADEMICS vs. ELECTIVES You can absolutely do everything you want/need to do AND do Band.
I strongly encourage students to take the optional 7th period.
This will give you back electives when you are a Senior.
I work closely with guidance to ensure that students can accomplish all of the goals they have ALONG with their music classes.
