Warm Up

1. In the diagram above, the water in the pan is changing from a liquid to a gas, or ____.

a. Melting c. condensing

b. freezing d. evaporating

2. What is matter? The amount of matter something contains.Everything in the universe that has mass and takes up spaceThe amount of salt in waterThe amount of space that matter takes up.

3. Study the picture above. When the sun comes out, the snowman melts, or changes from ____.

solid to liquid

liquid to solid

gas to liquid

solid to gas

4. Buoyancy is__________

The ability for an object to float

To form a solution with another material

The amount of matter something contains.

What is a conductor?

A conductor is something which allows electricity to flow through.

When dealing with thermal energy, conductors allow for heat to transfer easily from one object to the next

An example of a conductor is:

ScissorsPaper clipAluminum foilIronSteelCopperSilver Mercury Slide4

What is a Insulator?

An insulator is what makes electricity from not flowing

When dealing with thermal energy, insulators do not allow for the transfer of heat from one object to the next. They help to keep in the thermal energy.

Examples of insulators are:

CottonPaperPlastic GlassRubberAir Slide5

Conductors

allows energy flow through them.  Conductors are materials that can carry energy - they conduct energy. Metal materials such as copper, iron, steel and aluminum are all good conductors of energy.

Insulators

do not allow energy to flow through them. Materials such as wood, plastic, rubber and glass do not carry energy and are called insulators – they don’t conduct energy.
