Public Procurement

What is a public procurement?Government procurement, or public procurement, is the procurement of goods, services or constructions on behalf of a public authority, such as a government agency.

Slide5

Social Policies

Mauritius needs to bring new reforms in its social policies.Good social policies should:1. Support community groups, voluntary organisations and social enterprises to win more public sector contracts and to change commissioning structures so that a wider definition of value rather than just financial cost is considered. 2. Consider how the procurement of a service can improve the economic, social and environmental well-being of a targeted area.

Slide6

Example

Government would favour the winning of the contract to companies employing people with disabilities thus enforcing the implementation of its own social policies. E.g Winner of public procurement: A milk supplier to public school employing people with disabilities and promoting healthy eating habits.
