The military developed from within the community. Like the National Guard is today.Slide3

Siege

When an army takes control of a city or town in a total victory. The City of Charleston was taken by the British.Slide4

Blockade

To block a harbor and not allow traffic in or out. The British blockaded the harbor at Boston and the French blockaded the harbor at Virginia at the end of the war.Slide5

Provisional Government

Temporary government. When the colonists took over the colonies after the Dec. Of Ind. The new government was provisional.Slide6

Continental Army

The regular army run by George Washington. The official army of the colonists or patriots.Slide7

Guerilla Warfare

Fighting behind trees, not in plain sight. The strategy used by Francis Marion and the patriots.Slide8

Retreat

To call the army back. Go the other way from the fighting.Slide9

Partisan

The patriots that supported the revolution were called partisans. Not regular army.Slide10
