What is Mental Health?
The World Health Organization has defined mental health as:
“…
a state of well-being in which the individual realises his or her own abilities, can cope with the normal stresses of life, can work productively and fruitfully, and is able to make a contribution to his or her own community.”
Mental Health Illness and Mental Health Problems
People with a mental health problem will not have a diagnosis such as the people with Mental Health Illness who have a diagnosis (explained in the next slide).
Mental Health problems are when people experience symptoms of mental health illness that is not severe enough to warrant a diagnosis, Kitchener,
Jorm
and Kelly (2013).Slide3
