Band members ar e Lola Britton, Marion Brodkey , Michael Glusman, Becca Moeller, Lanier Sammons, River Smolen, and Betty Weiss. Sadza blends soprano, alto, tenor, baritone and bass marimbas (wooden xylophones), drums, gourd shakers, and vocals to create music that delights and excites our audiences of all ages who are encouraged to participate by clapping, singing, dancing or just listening - it's all up to you. “[Sadza's] music is rooted in the ancient spirit ual traditions of the indigenous Shona people, and a legacy of energy, and ecstasy continues." (Claire O'Connor, Good Times, Santa Cruz) 'The band's name "Sadza" comes from the Shona word for the staple food in Zimbabwe, a type of thick porridge often ma de from cornmeal or millet, eaten at most meals. And Sadza's offering is ‘musical sustenance’ for their fans! ...” (Diane C. Donovan, WorldDiscoveries.net) The traditional music and dance of indigenous cultures throughout Africa reveal their devotion to the celebration of life and the bringing together of people. The music and dance provide both a context and source for healing and growth. Sadza Marimba's performances feature complex harmonic weaving of melody and rhythms. Band members are Lola Britton, Marion Brodkey , Michael Glusm an, Becca Moeller, Lanier Sammons, River Smolen, and Betty Weiss. Sadza has opened for Thomas Mapfumo, Maya Soleil, and the Chinyakare Ensemble.
