L. Stedman. Everyone is welcome. Buy the book, read it, and let’s talk. Contact Betty Floyd, 423.870.1585. Everyday I’m reminded of my need . I’m not talking about a neurosis of identity which drives my every thought and action. No, I’m suggesting that there is some - thing in me (and perhaps all hu - - tion of others, for the sake of giving it language, let’s call it personhood, or for religious purposes, . You have probably experienced the same thing. Ask - son with a highly negative view of life (especially if it’s someone I’m supposed to love)?” Ouch! At the very least, it can be dicult to be around those dicult personalities. The same can be said of church families. Some con - gregations literally drive new folks away. “Who wants to be around a negative group of people? I can get my ego needs met elsewhere.” The majority of folks (regardless of age, generation, etc.) approach church families because they have a need . And that need is for a community that will love them regardless! They show up at our church doors because somewhere they have learned that the church is a grace-lled place that follows a God of love, compassion and justice. There have been times when this congregation has been less than arming. That is historical fact and it will not change. But today’s congregation is not that of the past. With intention and focus, FCC welcomes all to a table, and there embraces one another as Christ embraces us. Invite your friends, invite your enemies, invite those you serve, invite those who serve you to this extraordinary fellowship we call First Christian Church-Chattanooga. Shalom, Pastor Mark 727 E. 11th St. 1st & 3rd Friday, monthly; 9:00 to 11:45am ronagary@gmail.com 2nd Saturday, monthly; 8:30am 1st Wednesday, monthly bjwoomer@hotmail.com Sunday mornings hershey915@gmail.com or smtenn@bellsouth.net Help us host families for a week, several times each year chuck343@comcast.net Prepare a meal for the families at Chattanooga Room in the Inn, 4 shanhb@hotmail.com Mark’s Musings Outreach Volunteers are always needed. You can make a dierence in the lives of others simply by lending a hand. We are a church of service working for wholeness in a broken world. Volunteers needed to work at a Run Aid Station on Sept. 27 during the Ironman competition in support of Jonathan Hyde. Our goal is to have over 20 volun - teers from FCC! If you are interested in being a volunteer, please contact Gail Holcombe at 531-7683 or gailmaryh@ gmail.com Jonathan On Diana and kids are moving back into their house on Mississippi Ave in North Chattanoo - ga. If you are able to help that day – be it heavy lifting or the lighter work of unpacking boxes – please contact Dan Summerlin for times and details (883.3129 or dan. summerlin@cblproperties.com). All help will be appreci - ated and welcome, regardless of time available. And if you have a truck, that would also be helpful as most of their furniture is in storage. Scottie is starting a Meal Train for Diana and kids once they return. If you would like to participate by preparing a meal, please contact Scottie for details and she will add you to the schedule (645.5643 or scottiepta@gmail.com). A prayer for times of sorrow God of compassion, When our hearts are lled with sorrow, When our minds are wondering with questions, How often you come to us With an assurance that we are in your presence! It may not give us the answers we hunger for, But it is all we need to make it Through the moment! —David McPherson
