HNE LHD Closing the Gap Model

Mental Health Services at HNE – showing our commitment 2013 – 2% of employees identified as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander. 2016 – 5.8% of employees now identify as Aboriginal Torres Strait Islander. Access to Mental Health Services has steadily increased over time with 12% of the people we serve identified as Aboriginal. Development of Aboriginal Mental Health logo to support community in feeling safer to access services. Improvements to physical environment to ensure culturaly safe and appropriate Yarn with GM days held with Aboriginal Staff. Respecting the difference – Aboriginal cultural awareness training, 86% staff have completed.Clear messaging that racism or discrimination is not tolerated and swift action taken if required. Aboriginal & Torres Strait Islander Mental Health professional undergraduate traineeships and allied health cadetships

Closing the gap collaborative committee charged with leading closing the gap initiatives across the service.
