Learners Environment

The learning environment would be for first-timer horse judging students. It would help get the basics of horse judging down, without peer pressure causing students to attempt to learn too quickly. A challenge would be getting the students through the program at a decent amount of time.

The audience is high school students, mainly ninth and tenth graders, learning the basics of horse judging for Animal Sciences class extra credit horse judging team. The class is mixed of males and females and contains about 25 students. Although, students will be completing the program at different times throughout the year.

Ensure Completion

To ensure that students complete the program within a reasonable amount of time, there has been a few features added to ensure they get through it.

Mini Checkpoints throughout the program to ensure they are moving forward and do not get sent back to what they have accomplished.

Aspects such as an automatic reentry to a topic after two missed attempts at a question that is reviewing the information.

A set of problems at each checkpoint that make sure students are getting concepts and not just clicking to finish quickly.

Oral Answer 1

Well blended from neck to shoulder:The neck goes smoothly into the shoulder as it blends without looking less proportioned. This makes the horse look cleaner throughout.

Straighter underline:The underline from the bottom of the heart girth to the dip back under near the hindquarters is straightened until in goes under the hindquarters. Balanced with withers to hindquarters:

The region from the withers across the invisible line to the hindquarters is a straight line indicating that the horse is well balanced.

Feminine:

A term used in a class for mares that shows a horse that looks more female than another. Used if one mare looks more petite and less like a male than another.

This is the correct answer as we talked about in the activity. Hopefully you got close. If not, please go back and review the terms.

Feminine

Shorter Backed

Nicely Balanced

Next

BackSlide68

Red Group

Deeper in Heart Girth

Shorter Backed

Longer Hipped

Leaner neck that comes higher out of shoulder

The heart girth is where the girth belongs. This is talking about this region being deeper which typically means the heart has greater capacity.

The hip being longer on one horse than another is typically something that an individual judge would seek out.

A neck that is not over weight, meaning a slim neck. As well it coming off the top of shoulder rather than lower to help with breathing during hard running.

This means the back is shorter than another horse. This is breed specific, used often for horses in Western disciplines.

Next

BackSlide69

Green Group

High Quality

Feminine

Typier in Head

This would be breed specific. Used for breeds like Arabians and Morgans that exhibit more of a dished-face.

This term could be used just about anywhere. If you need another grant for a horse, this would be it.

Only used for mares, this term is good to relate to a horse that looks more like a mare than a gelding.

Next

BackSlide70

Purple Group

Stood Straighter legs with flatter bone

More Prominent Wither

Cleaner in Throat Latch

This term is used to describe a horse that stood sturdy and had the appearance of a performance horse.

For specific disciplines like jumping, a more prominent wither is superior as the saddle is less likely to slide around.

One that exhibits a clean throat latch when the jaw blends well into the neck.

Next

BackSlide71

Blue Group

Nicely Balanced

Longer in Underline

More Angulated Pastern

The pastern is located on the leg if you remember correctly. This is simply a more picky aspect to examine in a horse if you are wanting to impress a judge with a fancy term.

The underline is the bottom of the barrel. This needs to be very defined and make a straight line into the hindquarters if you want to use this term.

The ultimate go-to term in horse judging. Nicely balanced is a term that can almost always apply to one of the four horses in the class that day.

How to Reasons

When writing reasons, there is a way we almost always format our mini speech.

How you placed the class including the class name.

The top pair. Grant good things to top horse, and fault the second place horse.

The middle pair. Grant the second place horse and give a single fault, and fault the third place horse.

The bottom pair. Grant a single item to the third place horse, and only fault the bottom horse.

Restate your placing of the class and the class name.
