Be Aware Of DisloyaltyDisloyalty is the quality of not being loyal to a person, family,

country, or organization; unfaithfulness.Phases of DisloyaltyIndependence Stage

1. Independence StageSlide4

1. The Independent SpiritIf you belong to an organization, you are not independent of that organization. Therefore you can’t just do what you think is right. Slide5

Adonijah’s Independent spirit is defeated1 Kings 1:3 (NIV)3 Then they searched throughout Israel for a beautiful young woman and found Abishag, a Shunammite, and brought her to the king

.1 Kings 1:7 (NIV)7 Adonijah conferred with Joab son of Zeruiah and with Abiathar the priest, and they gave him their support.1 Kings 1:29-30 (NIV)

29

The king then took an oath: “As surely as the

Lord lives, who has delivered me out of every trouble, 30 I will surely carry out this very day what I swore to you by the Lord, the God of Israel: Solomon your son shall be king after me, and he will sit on my throne in my place.”Slide6

The Independent Spirit – The beginning of disloyalty1 Kings 2:31-34 (NIV)31 Then the king commanded Benaiah, “Do as he says. Strike him down and bury him, and so clear me and my whole family of the guilt of the innocent blood that Joab shed.

32 The Lord will repay him for the blood he shed, because without my father David knowing it he attacked two men and killed them with the sword. Both of them—Abner son of Ner, commander of Israel’s army, and Amasa son of Jether, commander of Judah’s army—were better men and more upright than he. 33 May the guilt of their blood rest on the head of

Joab

and his descendants forever.

But on David and his descendants, his house and his throne, may there be the Lord’s peace forever.”34 So Benaiah son of Jehoiada went up and struck down Joab and killed him, and he was buried at his home out in the

country (wilderness).Slide7

2. Offensive stageSlide8

TAKING OFFENCEThe spirit of offence opens the door to the spirit of treachery. Treachery is betrayal of trust; deceptive action or nature.

Absalom was grievously hurt by 1) rape of his sister 2) inaction of his father over the matter.Hurts and offences usher people down the road of disloyalty.2 Samuel 13:28 (NIV)28 Absalom ordered his men, “Listen! When Amnon is in

high spirits from drinking

wine and I say to you, ‘Strike Amnon down,’ then kill him. Don’t be afraid. Haven’t I given you this order? Be strong and brave.”Slide9

3. Passivity StageSlide10

PassivityAfter being offended, people become passive. Sits and watches. Don’t get involved, are unconcerned, uninterested. Jeremiah 48:10 (NLT

)10 Cursed are those who refuse to do the Lord’s work, who hold back their swords from shedding blood!God expects me to be involved when I have something to contribute.2 Samuel 13:22 (NIV)22 And Absalom never said a word to Amnon, either good or bad

; he hated

Amnon

because he had disgraced his sister Tamar. If King David had noticed that Absalom’s attitude, he might have been able to prevent Absalom from being a murderer. Slide11

4. Critical StageSlide12

The critical stageStage of noticing and magnifying faults.Miriam had followed Moses all along and then became critical.Numbers 12:1 (NIV)12 Miriam and Aaron began to talk against Moses because of his

Cushite wife, for he had married a Cushite. If you look at something with critical eyes, you will only see the imperfections. However, if you look with an eye of love, you will see something good and hope in the future.2 Samuel 15:3 (NIV)3 Then Absalom would say to him, “Look, your claims are valid and proper, but there is no representative of the king to hear you.” 4

And Absalom would add, “

If only I were appointed judge in the land! Then everyone who has a complaint or case could come to me and I would see that they receive justice.

”Slide13

5. Political StageSlide14

Political stageTries to involve others in his or her ideas. Wants to gather a following and make people believe that he has identified a real problem that must be addressed.Absalom was hurt (offence stage

), said nothing for 2 years (passive stage), then became analytical of David’s policies (critical stage), then started to involve others in his disloyal thoughts (political stage).People of Israel loved Absalom for 2 reasons – 1) He was handsome and physically attractive 2) He seemed to genuinely care for them 2 Samuel 15:6 (NIV)6 Absalom behaved in this way toward all the Israelites who came to the king asking for justice, and

so he stole the hearts of the people of Israel

.Slide15

6. Deception StageSlide16

DeceptionNo one wants to destroy one’s life. Many rebellious people are deceived to believe that they are greater than their seniors. John 14:12 Jesus was ok with His disciples doing greater works

.John 14:12 (NIV)12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father.Never forget that you have been set where you are by or through someone else.Lucifer was deceived by his success Ezekiel 28:17Many rebellious people are deceived because they are gifted and anointed. Absalom was very gifted but wanted to be king.

Absalom fought against his father and failed. Judas flopped. Lucifer flopped.

Proverbs

30:17 (NIV)17 “The eye that mocks a father, that scorns an aged mother, will be pecked out by the ravens of the valley, will be eaten by the vultures.Slide17

DeceptionEzekiel 28:12-14 (NIV)“‘You were the seal of perfection,    full of wisdom and

perfect in beauty.13 You were in Eden,    the garden of God;every precious stone adorned you:    carnelian, chrysolite and emerald,    topaz, onyx and jasper,    lapis lazuli, turquoise and beryl.[a]Your settings and mountings

[

b

] were made of gold;    on the day you were created they were prepared.14 You were anointed as a guardian cherub,    for so I ordained you.You were on the holy mount of God;    you walked among the fiery stones.Slide18

DeceptionEzekiel 28:17 (NIV)17 Your heart became proud    on account of your beauty,

and you corrupted your Wisdom because of your splendor. So I threw you to the earth; I made a spectacle

of

you

before kings.Slide19

7. Open Rebellion stageSlide20

Open rebellionFight openly against authority. Gains psychological support by gaining support from some people he has talked to. Lucifer gained support of a third of the angels.

2 Samuel 16:11 (NIV)11 David then said to Abishai and all his officials, “My son, my own flesh and blood, is trying to kill me.2 Samuel 16:22 (NIV)22 So they pitched a tent for Absalom on the roof, and he slept with his father’s concubines in the sight of all Israel.Matthew 26:47-48 (NIV)

47

While he was still speaking, Judas, one of the Twelve, arrived. With him was a large crowd armed with swords and clubs, sent from the chief priests and the elders of the people. 48 Now the betrayer had arranged a signal with them: “The one I kiss is the man; arrest him.”Slide21

8. Execution Phase2 Samuel 15:11 (NIV)11 Two hundred men from Jerusalem had accompanied Absalom. They had been invited as guests and went quite innocently, knowing nothing about the matter.

The fruit of rebellion is very clear in the Bible. God will divinely displace and replace the rebels with someone else. 1 Samuel 15:23 (NIV)23 For rebellion is like the sin of divination,Slide22

Final result of rebellion - DeathMatthew 27:5 (NIV)5 So Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself.2 Samuel 17:23 (NIV)

23 When Ahithophel saw that his advice had not been followed, he saddled his donkey and set out for his house in his hometown. He put his house in order and then hanged himself. So he died and was buried in his father’s tomb.2 Samuel 18:15 (NIV)15 And ten of Joab’s armor-bearers surrounded Absalom, struck him and killed him.
