Style can also refer to a set of prescriptive rules in academia, as in MLA Style, APA Style, Chicago Style, etc. In technical communication, one oft-used style is the style of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers. We’ll call this IEEE Style.

The bibliography is a lettered annex that appears as either the first or last annexIn general, the title or author of the publication and the bibliographic reference number should be cited [B4]. If the item is a standard, the designation (e.g., IEEE Std 1226.6-1996) and bibliographic reference number (e.g., [B4]) should be cited.

The bibliography should be ordered alphanumerically, without respect to the type of publication being cited.
