Welcome and Overview ADJUNCT ORIENTATION

Welcome Welcome to the Baltimore City Community College team! This orientation is meant to introduce new adjunct employees to the College, and its team leaders, as well as provide employees with valuable information and resources that will help to make the transition to the BCCC team as smooth as possible.After navigating through this orientation and viewing links, please complete the “Completed Adjunct Orientation Form” and submit to the Human Resources Department.If you have any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact the Human Resources Department directly at 410-209-6007. 2

2 BCCC History BCCC is both an old and a young institution. The College was foundedin 1947, as Baltimore Junior College, a part of the Baltimore City Public Schools. Its mission was to provide post high school education for returning World War II veterans. In 1967, the College was renamed Community College of Baltimore and restructured as a department of the City of Baltimore. In the 1980s, shrinking resources made it difficult for the City to continue operating a quality institution of higher education. As a result, on July 1, 1990, the Maryland General Assembly created a new institution, New Community College of Baltimore, funded by the State of Maryland. The College was granted permanent state status in 1992 and renamed Baltimore City Community College.

6 Our Interim President James H. Johnson, Jr., Ph.D. was appointed as interim Baltimore City Community College President effect July 2, 2018. Dr. Johnson brings a wealth of experience in higher education leadership and public service to his role with the College. Dr. Johnson is a registered professional engineer and the recipient of several national awards.He currently serves as trustee and past chair of the Board of Trustees for Anne Arundel Community College and a past chair of the Maryland Association of Community Colleges. For38 years, Dr. Johnson was a faculty member and administrator at Howard University where he served as a professor of civil engineering and Dean of the College of Engineering, Architecture and Computer Sciences. 7 BCCC Leadership Team Mr. Calvin Harris is the College’s Chief Financial Officer, providing management and leadership with oversight of nine administrative and financial areas. Mr. Harris is a certified public accountant and serves as National President, Chief Executive Officer, and Director of the National Association of Black Accountants, Inc. He also serves as the Chief Financial Officer for Areas Global TB Vaccine Foundation and is the founder and CEO of Harvin Consulting. Mr. Harris is a member of the Maryland Association of Certified Public Accountants and the American Society of Association Executives. In 2017 he received a Best in Finance CFO award from the Baltimore Business Journal. Mr. Harris earned a B.A. with honors in Business Administration and Accounting from Morehouse College. 8 BCCC Leadership Team Ms. Kirstaetter is responsible for fundraising, alumni affairs, communications, marketing and strategic partnerships in addition to serving as BCCC's primary liaison to the Office of the Mayor of Baltimore City, City Hall and city agencies. Ms. Kirstaetter has more than 20 years of leadership in government, nonprofit and advocacy. She served as Deputy Mayor of Baltimore City for Health, Human Services and Education during the administration of Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake. Prior to that, she served as Chief Operating Officer for Associated Black Charities. Ms. Kirstaetter is on the Leadership Council of the Open Society Institute-Baltimore and a board member of the Maryland SPCA, Georgetown University Hoya Hoop Club, and the SEED School of Maryland. She holds a B.A. in Government from Georgetown University and an M.S.W. from Clark Atlanta University. Dawn Kirstaetter Vice President for Advancement and Strategic Partnerships

9 BCCC Leadership Team Dr. Ringgold is Vice President for Academic Affairs and BCCC’s Accreditation Liaison Officer to the Middle States Commission on Higher Education. Dr. Ringgold’s expertise includes E-learning, diversity and computer literacy. Her research on the Digital Divide was showcased at Oxford University, England. Dr. Ringgold was recognized by the Coalition of 100 Black Women for Excellence in Educational Leadership and received The Daily Record’s Innovator of the Year Award in Education in 2015. She has twice been a recipient of The Daily Record’s Maryland’s Top 100 Women. Dr. Ringgold holds five academic degrees including an M.S. in Science in Applied Psychology from the University of Baltimore, an M.S. in Management and an M.B.A. from the University of Maryland University College, and a Doctorate in Education from Morgan State University. 10 BCCC Leadership Team Ms. Sylvia Rochester is serving as Interim Vice President of Student Affairs and leads the enrollment management and student development areas for the College. Ms. Rochester has been part of the BCCC Community since 1999, most recently serving as Dean of Enrollment Management. She brings to the role more than 16 years of extensive experience in higher education. Ms. Rochester holds a M.S. degree in Administration Supervision, Adult and Continuing Education and is currently matriculating at Morgan State University in the Community College Leadership Doctoral Program. 11 BCCC Leadership Team Mr. Perry advises and counsels the president, Board of Trustees and senior level staff on strategic decisions and long range planning and manages the College’s overall legal exposure. He supports special presidential projects, and manages the implementation of all major initiatives outlined in BCCC’s strategic plan and the president’s agenda . Mr. Perry served on the writing group for the 2017 Maryland Higher Education Commission’s State Plan for Postsecondary Education, and has been a featured speaker on issues of higher education law, compliance, and risk management. He serves on the strategic planning committee for the National Association of Collegiate and University Attorney’s. 12 BCCC Leadership Team Mr. Thomas i s Vice President for Workforce Development and Continuing Education, a division that works with businesses, government agencies, and professional associations to identify training needs for the people of Baltimore. Mr. Thomas leads a team that develops innovative credit and noncredit courses and programs focused on opportunities for job readiness and lifelong learning at four sites throughout Baltimore City.Mr . Thomas has more than 25 years of experience in developing and implementing training programs, including budget development and evaluation. He previously served as director of career and technology education for the Baltimore City Public School System along with leadership posts in law enforcement. He holds an M.S. in Human Resources from Towson University, a B.S. in Criminal Justice Administration from Park University and additional graduate certificates. Michael D. 13 BCCC Leadership Team Ms. Green is a veteran auditor with more than 30 years’ experience as a certified internal auditor. She oversees all audit activities at BCCC to facilitate a culture of compliance through policies and procedures, implementation, enforcement and review. Ms. Green advises several committees and groups including BCCC’s Enterprise Resource Planning System’s core team. Prior to coming to BCCC, Ms. Green was an assistant treasurer for one of the largest savings and loan organizations in Maryland. She was subsequently retained by the Resolution Trust Corporation to assist in the liquidation of failed thrift institutions. Ms. Green holds an M.S. degree in the Project Management track and an M.B.A., both from the University of Maryland University College. Lyllis M. GreenChief Internal Auditor

14 BCCC Leadership Team Michelle Williams serves as Executive Director of Human Resources at BCCC. Ms. Williams has more than 25 years of experience in human resources includes extensive experience in policy design, project management, labor negotiations, conflict resolution, training and development, and talent recruitment and selection.Michelle received a B.S. in business and healthcare administration at Sojourner-Douglass College, and dual master’s degrees in human resource management and public administration at Towson University. She also holds a certification in advanced management from University of Baltimore, maintains a membership with Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), National Association of African Americans in Human Resources (NAAHR), College and University Professional Association for Human Resources (CUPA), and is considered a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in employee and labor relations, training/education, compensation, and talent acquisition. 19 Judicial Affairs and Title IX What is Title IX?Title IX of the Education Amendments of 1972 prohibits sex discrimination in educational programs and activities. No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subjected to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal assistance. Maryland law also prohibits gender discrimination and sexual harassment.Title IX prohibits sexual harassment; sex discrimination; all non-consensual sexual activity; stalkingand relationship violence. Enforcement of this fraud policy is the responsibility of the entire College community in order to prevent, detect, report, and resolve known or suspected incidences of fraud.
