Sincerely, Janice Fraser, President Star Cushion Products, Inc. www.starcushion.com “ Front of Cushion ” Dual Valve Sy stem Instructions for Use Please read instructions carefully and follow guidelines to properly adjust your Galaxy ™ Cushion. Failure to comply with the instructions may cause improper inflation of this dynamic air - flow cushion, resulting in a loss of thera peutic value. Inflating the Cushion: 1. This cushion is designed with dual chambers and two associated valves. Locate one of the cushion’s air valve s and open it by turning the outer black tip counterclockwise one full turn. Do not apply pressure when open ing and closing valve. The valve maintains a tight seal with little effort. (See below figure.) 2. Attach the rubber hose end of the pump to the open valve. Insure that the pump hose is placed tightly over the valve. 3. With the pump attached, pump to moderate inflation. Note: Moderate inflation is achieved when the center of the cushion begins to arch. 4. Remove pump from cushion valve and quickly close valve by lightly turning clockwise. 5. With the valve closed, no air escapes. 6. L ocate the second air valve and repeat steps 1 thru 5. Personalizing the Inflation of Your Cushion: 7. Now place your cushion on the chair with both inflation valve s facing the front. Sit on the cushion and in the chair in a relaxed position. Ensure that you r arms and legs are positioned in the appropriate and comfortable position. 8. Now place your hand between the cushion and the boniest area or your ischials. 9. Open one of the valve s and begin slowly letting air escape from the cushion. As air escapes, use your fingers as a guide to estimate distance between your boniest prominence and the base of the cushion. Continue releasing air until you are positioned approximately ¾” off of the base of the cushion. (See figure below .) At this point, gently close the valv e by turning the outer silver tip clockwise, restricting all air flow immediately. Locate second valve and repeat step 7 thru 9. Warning : Under - inflation : Insufficient inflation or loss of cushion air may cause lack of body support. It is impo rtant that you are immersed into the cushion, but not resting on the base of the cushion. Sitting on the base, or in a bottom - out situation, can result in peak pressure areas. Prolonged exposure to peak pressures impedes blood flow, reducing blood flow and essential nourishment to the skin, increasing the risk of pressure ulcer development. Over - inflation: If the cushion remains over inflated for daily use the body will not immerse into the cells, minimizing the overall effectiveness of the Star Cushion. Insure that the cushion is supporting you as per the instructions to acquire maximum therapeutic b enefit. Repeat steps 1 through 9 if you are not properly adjusted and supported by your Galaxy Cushion. Enjoy - Your Cushion is now ready for use.
