Nobody Said I Shouldn’t Group E: Brittany Caleb John & Rishi MGS 3040 section 4

Where Did Kelly Go Wrong ? Kelly went wrong by taking the data home and going through it (aka being nosey ) Kelly thought it was all just for fun but she took the data and brought it up at an out of business affair (getting a beer after work ) Kelly should have just done her job and if she had any questions she should have just went to Jason privately and asked or went to the boss to speak to him

Do you think it was illegal, unethical, or neither for Kelly to take the database home and query the data? If Kelly was just taking the work home to actually accomplish things for her job I do not think it would have been a big deal It was unethical for Kelly to go and say something in front of the people at work if a company was getting a discount that is the bosses objective, no one else should have a say in it It could be illegal if Kelly was taking the database home yet I do not believe it was for a malicious reason in anyway.

Does the company share culpability with Kelly? Not to the entirety The company should watch where their database is at all times Kelly is the main culprit for taking the database home It is hard to watch everything in a big company but on the other hand if the company is doing underhanded things they should not be Or they should be taking inconsideration who is working with what databases

What do you think Kelly should have done discovering the odd pattern in Jason’s orders? Kelly should have went to Jason and asked him why his order patterns are odd Kelly could have also went to the main boss and asked him It was completely wrong how Kelly took it upon her self to say something in the bar There is a time and place for everything and that cost Kelly her job

What should have the company done before firing Kelly? The boss should have talked to Kelly Ask her why she took the database home Jason could have explained why he gave Valley Appliances a discount The company could have told Kelly why there is no reason to ever take the database out of the building

Is it possible that someone other than Jason is involved in the arrangement with Valley Appliances? What should have Kelly done in light of that possibility? Yes the company could have allowed Valley Appliances to have that discount, with that big of an account the discount may allow Valley Appliances to keep their account with this company Kelly should have talked to Jason and the boss and again not said something at the time she did being in front of all the people she was in front of

What should Kelly do now? Kelly should apologize to Jason, because she could have cost him his job as well She should also apologize to the company because if that discount got out to the knowledge of other companies it could have cost the company a lot of money

“ Metadata make databases easy to use- for both authorized and unauthorized purposed” Explain what organizations should do in light of this fact. Companies should not let them out of their building They should only allow certain personnel to view the database They should get a database with passwords so only authorized personnel can view the data
