Keyboarding & Ergonomics
Mr. PaulkSlide2
Day 1: What does the word Ergonomics mean?
ERGONOMICS...
The term "ergonomics" is derived from two Greek words: "ergon," meaning work, and "nomoi," meaning natural laws. Ergonomists study human capabilities in relationship to work demands
.
Basically how is your body reacting to its working environment! Slide3
What are we going to discuss today?

Proper Techniques for Keyboarding
Advantages of proper techniques
Consequences of improper techniquesSlide4
Check out this brief video of Keyboarding Ergonomics below!
What can cause back pain?
What happens if your keyboard is too high?
Whats
a good angle your arms should be at?
Is glare okay on your screen?Slide5
Typing Ergonomics
The goal of typing ergonomics is to reduce the strain, stress and wear and tear of your joints as you repeatedly type away.
According to
Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) Statistics
, about 95% of an office worker's day is spent in front of the computer, typing and using the mouse.
While using
ergonomic keyboards
and setting up
ergonomic workstations
are great for reducing risks of computer injuries, we shouldn't forget that
the way we use it is
important as well
. Slide6
Tips for a good Ergonomics Work station:
Monitor should be 2-3 inches above eye level
No glare should be on your screen
Sit at arms length from your computer
Wrist should be flat in relationship to your forearm to use input devices such as the mouse and keyboard
Arms and elbows in a relaxed state
Take short breaks! Slide7
Lets see
what you can spot? Take 10 minutes and write down all the good ergonomics traits and bad traits you can see in the photos below.

Label the Parts:
By now you should know the basic ergonomic posture. On a separate sheet of paper take the next 10-15 minutes and label the photo. Each number will correspond with your answer. After you label the parts Write 3 complete sentences about each part you have labeled. Slide14
Finally, what if I don’t care? What if I don’t practice good ergonomic posture?
You can develop these issues if you do not comply with correct ergonomics: Musculoskeletal
, vision, and hearing problems are common in the workplace. By applying ergonomic solutions, you may be able to reduce physical problems and improve your comfort and ability to work effectively.Slide15
