The U.S. Armyinstalled a gun batteryherein the 1940s, and during the Cold War built a Nike missile station on Milagra andnearbySweeneyRidge. In 1984, Milagra Ridge became part ofthe Golden Gate NationalRecreation Area and todayis the focus ofcommunityefforts to restore the wildlifehabitat andhelp ensure the survival ofa number ofrare and endangered species foundwithin this national parkland.
