Sportsmanship

 - following the rules of the game, respecting the judgment of referees and officials, treating opponents with respect, respect for one's opponent and graciousness in winning or losing

Fair Play

 - a shared interpretation of the rules, the equal treatment of all concerned, sticking to the agreed rules, not using unfair advantages

Respect

- competitors within a competition should have similar performance potential and performance strength

The use of drones will be prohibited within the confines of stadiums, fields and arenas during NCHSAA contests. This policy includes not only the restricted playing area of the venue(s), but also the physical confines of the entire stadium/field/arena structure.

RULE 3-3-3(e) (new)

If the game is stopped to issue a caution to or to disqualify bench personnel, any player who has already reported to be a substitute can enter the game.

Be aware of Exertional Heatstroke (EHS) and take proper measures during games involving high temperatures.

Hydration Breaks

If both coaches ask for a water break BEFORE the game, GIVE IT!!!!!! Let the coaches approach you about it.If both coaches agree, give the break around the 20th and 60th minute.Give it at a goal kick or throw-in in the defensive half.DO NOT give it during a corner kick nor throw-in in the final third.USE COMMON SENSE!!

Players, coaches and officials must work together to model and demonstrate sportsmanship and fair play, to minimize risk and to maximize participation.

TAPE OR SIMILAR

MATERIALS ON SOCKS

If tape or a similar material is applied externally, it must be of similar color as the sock. Home team shall wear white (PlayPic A). Away team should have similar color, i.e. maroon could have red tape (PlayPic B).

Weather/Lightning Protocol

The host school administrator is ultimately responsible for weather related delays/postponements of contests. By NFHS rule, game officials have the authority to delay/postpone games, but are not at the disposal of lightning/weather radars available to game administrators. Use of available technology should be utilized by the appropriate administrative personnel to determine whether to continue or delay/postpone a contest.

REPLACEMENT OF GOALKEEPER

RULE 3-3-2(b)2

If the referee stops the clock for an apparent injury to a goalkeeper and/or a goalkeeper is attended to on the field (PlayPic A), the goalkeeper shall be replaced by a substitute or field player (PlayPic B).

“Stays/straps” was added to the language of the rule to more clearly define what is used to keep player’s shinguards in place. “Stays/straps” must be similar to the color of the sock.

Yellow Card Tracking

Coaches and Athletic Directors are responsible for tracking yellow cards accumulated by their players

5 yellow cards accumulated by the same player will result in a suspension (miss next contest at that level and all contests in the interim)

An additional 5 yellow cards by that same player (total of 10) will result in an ejection

A red card disqualification that is NOT an ejection is the equivalent of 2 yellow card.

Inclement/Hot Weather Guidelines

The following should be considered when scheduling practice:

Intensity level of practice

Equipment worn

Environmental conditions

High Temperature and high humidity create a dangerous situation for athletes. High humidity and low temperature can also cause serious heat-related problems.

Water/fluid replacement breaks recommended each 20 or 30 minutes. (depending on practice conditions)

Check with your AD on your LEA’s and school’s policy pertaining to practice on days of extreme heat.

Cardiac Safety Program

All NCHSAA member schools must have a Cardiac Safety Program by Aug 1, 2015 to include three (3) components:

Appropriate number of AEDs on Campus

AED maintenance program (battery checks, maintain, replacement at appropriate intervals)

Required viewing of short AED/CPR video for all supervising adults (teachers, coaches, administrators)
