Framer Joe thought it was time he went and asked farmer John.
G'day Mate!Slide18
Turned out Farmer John had many problems of his own.Slide19
Farmer John’s crops kept getting taken over by weeds and grasses.
?Slide20
He tried ploughing them...Slide21
But that didn’t work. So he tried poisoning them.Slide22
But that just killed his crops!Slide23
The last thing John tried was covering the field with newspaper.Slide24
=(
But Famer John didn’t have enough and it started to blow away. Slide25
Then Farmer Joe had an idea. Why not ask Google?
Google.comSlide26
Google was a smart man, and told them many things.
Google.com
Oooh! I see
.Slide27
Farmer Joe just had to use a thing called crop rotationSlide28
In simple terms, Joe just had to grow other vegetables as well, like corn and cabbages, to make his carrots happy.Slide29
This was Crop Rotation.Every year Farmer Joe had to swap around different types of vegetablesSlide30
Framer Joe set out his 4 year plan.
My PlanSlide31
One year would be his beloved carrots,Slide32
Then the next year Joe could grow corn,Slide33
After that would be tomatoes,Slide34
Then lastly cabbages.Slide35
Farmer Joe would repeat this plan so he would be effectively sustaining his farm.Slide36
Farmer John figured out that mulching his crops by simply buying or cutting up woodchips or covering it with a layer of other plant material, then putting it on the crop is the BEST way to grow!!Slide37
Here is Famer John’s new, nicely mulched crop! He decided to use hay/silage in order to control the weeds and grasses and put nutrients in to the soil. Slide38
To this day, Farmer Joe and Farmer John are happy farmers with their sustainably grown crops and vegetablesSlide39
