The assignmentBased on a cultural studies lesson about Miniature Worlds and Mini-Europe students were asked to create their own miniature model park for visitors to BulgariaThey were divided into 6 groups of 4-5 students, each with the task to select attractions from their country to present in an interactive waySlide4

The assigmentStudents then had about 10 days to research their topic and develop their 10-minute presentationsThey could choose whether to make an interactive poster or a PowerPoint presentationsThey were next to present it to their classmates and check what they have learnedSlide5

AimsTo develop students’ research, speaking and presentation skillsTo develop social skills through team workTo develop ICT skillsTo enhance knowledge about the cultural attractions of Bulgaria through the use of EnglishTo create materials which can raise our partners’ awareness of the beauty of our country Slide6

PresentationsEach group had about 15 minutes to present and collect feedback on their performance from the class and the teacher. They had previously had a chance to discuss the organisation of their mini-lessons with their teacherMarks were awarded for their materials and their oral performance and the level of interaction with their audienceSlide8

PresentationsAs there was no overlap in content, students were not boredThe focus was on the interactive element, so they all tried to involve the audience in different ways: some with quizzes, other with questions given before, during or after their talksAfter each presentation there was a short discussion about strengths and weaknesses and students were given the chance to improve their materials before they were given their final markSlide9

Was it worth it?We ended up with 2 poster and 4 PowerPoint presentations about 25 attractions from our countryThe students became more confident in presenting in front of an audienceThey learned from each other’s mistakes and are now better both at speaking in public and making interactive presentationsThe presentations themselves can be useful in teaching similar lessons to other studentsSlide21
