Moving to the United States from Colombia has been the most significant event in my life for a plethora of reasons. Obviously, I learned a new educational system here. Equally important, I am now able to speak numerous languages, including English. Of course,
I learned how to adjust to a different environment than the only one I had known prior to moving to this country.

The Basic 5-Paragraph Essay
Learning to adjust to a new educational system has made moving to America an incredible experience. It reminded me of the theme of a novel I recently read: When life gives you lemons, you make lemonade. Basically, in any situation, no matter how impossible, look for the positive to make it better. For instance, it was difficult to adjust to how schools work in America. I used to have more of choice over which classes I wanted to take, but here practically everything is chosen for me. At first this bothered me a lot, but now I have found that I am enjoying subjects I probably never would have chosen to try.
Clearly,
having to move and adjust to a new educational system was challenging, but also satisfying in the end.Justifier sentence

Additionally, learning a new language was difficult but crucial for me to obtain a successful career in the future. After experiencing ESL classes, I learned that there were many other students in the same boat as me, struggling to perfect a new language. At least eight out of ten of my fellow students eventually felt as I did; we were thankful to have this opportunity to become more diversified and cultured. Although learning a new language was challenging, it is definitely one of the many positive changes a person experiences when moving to a new country.

Not only did I learn a new school system and language, but also I adjusted to a new environment. I am reminded of the famous pop singer Gloria Estefan, who started her career singing only Spanish music, but eventually added English songs to her repertoire, as well. I once heard Gloria speak in an interview about her initial difficulties adjusting to American customs; however, she eventually enjoyed her new surroundings in Florida equally as much as her home country. I can relate to Gloria’s feelings as I struggled at first in this country, but soon enough I found my way in America. Thus, learning to enjoy a new environment taught me to be a stronger and more well-rounded person.

Without a doubt,
moving was the most significant event in my life because I learned to adjust to a new educational system, I learned a new language, and I managed to adjust to my new surroundings in America.
As I previously mentioned, numerous famous people like Gloria Estefan have made happy lives for themselves in the United States of America.
I, too, am one of the immigrants here who has adjusted well and appreciates having the freedom to pursue all my dreams in life.

My family and I are speeding down I-95 in a racecar; next, we’re in the middle of a shoot out in some old west town; now, we are surrounded by sharks near the Great Barrier Reef. Suddenly, my younger sister decided it would be great to end our channel surfing and stop on the Disney Channel. After watching “Hannah Montana” for a few minutes, I was about to lose my mind, so I stole the remote back from her and settled into some more realistic programming - Bravo’s “Flipping Out.” In that instant, I realized reality television shows are much more interesting and exciting than shows with “planned” story lines.
Television audiences actually prefer Reality TV over other variations of television programming because the shows are unscripted, they make audiences feel superior, and they pertain to real-life situations that people face every day.

2 Initially,
audiences choose Reality TV over other programs regularly because these shows are unscripted and wild; therefore, unexpected events occur. My science teacher always reminds us, “It is wiser to choose what you say than to say what you choose.” In other words, people should think before they speak in order to appear as mature well-respected individuals. What makes Reality TV so amazing is that the people on the shows never think before they speak; consequently, they often make fools of themselves which adds to the humor and delight of the audience members. Obviously, the unscripted nature of Reality television shows aids in the viewing pleasure of people watching them.

3 Not only are Reality TV programs wild, but also they are entertaining because they make the audience members feel superior.
For instance, I once watched a show called “Big Brother”, and there was a huge argument between two people over lies and secrets. One of these individuals actually fell backwards into a pool unexpectedly. I laughed so hard tears ran down my face for the next ten minutes. After a hard day at school, I need shows like this to take my mind off the books for awhile. Since Reality Television shows usually depict people who are behaving badly, they are much more interesting to watch as opposed to other programs.Transition

5 In a nutshell, television viewers prefer Reality TV shows over regular programming. As I was sitting back to enjoy Jeff “flipping out” over life’s circumstances and learning a bit about remodeling homes, I thanked my sister Sydney for keeping the torturous “acting” of “Hannah Montana” off the television.
Sydney even started to enjoy Reality TV a little more and decided to continue watching the “Flipping Out” marathon with me.Thesis Statement

Amelia Earhart once stated, “Adventure is worthwhile in itself.” Basically, all people (whether five years old or fifteen years old) should partake in adventurous activities to feel free as a bird and enjoy life. There are many ways that students can begin to live a more adventurous life. One way to experiencing adventure without driving your parents crazy is participating in extra-curricular activities. Extra-curricular activities are most definitely beneficial to the children who participate in them.

Initially, extra-curricular activities are imperative in a child’s life because they teach commitment and dedication, two very important character traits. Most of the youngsters who attend extra-curricular activities on a regular basis develop skills to use time wisely. For example, my cousin, Katie, takes ballet classes after school, and she learned to balance ballet practice and geometry homework with a stress-free life. If she did not utilize her free time wisely with extra-curricular fun, she might have ended up a bump on a log watching television by herself all night. As children learn to taste adventure,
their participation in extra-curricular activities will develop commitment and dedication.

Equally important, after-school activities are imperative because they help children maintain a healthy life-style. Sports activities, in particular, encourage kids to exercise daily; additionally, children learn great habits that contribute to their knowledge of physical education. The Wall Street Journal recently wrote an article on the statistics of obese young people and found that a small number of them participated in extra-curricular activities that incorporated exercise into them. Clearly, extra-curricular activities are extremely beneficial because they help children stay healthy.

Extra-curricular activities are also crucial to a child’s youth because they teach social skills. These activities expose children to different situations where they interact with other children and teenagers. These types of experiences mature kids and teach them to get along with others. My best friend, Dylan, reiterates all the time, “Life is nothing without after-school activities.” In other words, children wouldn’t grow-up happily without this special time to let loose with friends. Obviously, children develop social skills in their after-school activities.

In summation, extra-curricular activities are absolutely imperative for children to attend because they teach children to use their time wisely.
