Typical Changes in Male:

1. HORMONE PRODUCTION

The male sex hormone, testosterone, is produced in the testicles to produce other changes during puberty.

Men also produce a small amount of the female hormones, estrogen

SEX HORMONES CAUSE THE CHANGES DURING

PUBERTYSlide4

Typical Changes in Male:

2. DEEPER VOICE

Increased testosterone levels stimulate a thickening of the vocal chords, causing the voice to deepen.Slide5

Typical Changes in Male:

3. MUSCULAR DEVELOPMENT

increased testosterone levels stimulate muscle growth.Slide6

Typical Changes in Male:

4. LARGER GENITALS

Increased testosterone stimulates the growth of the genitalsSlide7

Typical Changes in Male:

5. BODY HAIR

Hair appears in varying amounts on the body, underarms and around the genitalsSlide8

Typical Changes in Male:

6. BODY ODOR

Increased activity of the sweat glands, especially during high stress, causes body odorSlide9

Typical Changes in Male:

7. NOCTURNAL EMISSIONS

Typical Changes in Female:

1. HORMONE PRODUCTION

The female sex hormones,

progesterone

and estrogen, are produced in the ovaries and circulate through the blood stream to produce other changes during puberty.Women also produce a small amount of the male hormones, testosterone

SEX HORMONES CAUSE THE CHANGES DURING PUBERTYSlide12

Typical Changes in Female:

2. BREAST DEVELOPMENT

Increased estrogen levels stimulate breast tissue growth.

Sometimes one breast enlarges more rapidly

Different sizes of breast may be normal during puberty and may or may not eventually become symmetricalSlide13

Typical Changes in Female:

3. LARGER PELVIS

Increased estrogen stimulates the broadening of the pelvis in anticipation of pregnancy and childbirth

LARGER PELVIS IS HELPFUL FOR PREGNANCY AND CHILDBIRTHSlide14

Typical Changes in Female:

4. BODY HAIR

Hair appears in varying amounts on the body, underarms and around the genitalsSlide15

Typical Changes in Female:

5. BODY ODOR

Increased activity of the sweat glands, especially during high stress, causes body odorSlide16

Typical Changes in Female:

6. MENSTRUATION

The monthly discharge of blood and uterine lining from the uterus.
