Literary Terms to Know and LoveParadox : Noun 1 . a statement that is seemingly contradictory or opposed to common sense and yet is perhaps true 2. A situation or action that is seemingly contradictory but is actually possible.

Literary Terms to Know and LoveParadox : In the first act of Hamlet, King Claudius describes his mood on the occasion of his marriage with several paradoxes, including “with mirth in funeral and with dirge in marriage.”

Words to Know and LoveMirth : Noun gladness or happiness often accompanied with laughter Middle English, from Old English myrgth for merry — First Known Use: before 12th century
