BPAT License WHAT, WHO and WHYWhat is a backflow device- A backflow prevention device is used to protect potable water supplies from contamination or pollution due to backflow. In water supply systems, water is normally maintained at a significant pressure to enable water to flow from the tap, shower, or other fixture.Who are Backflow Testers- An individual who tests and repairs backflow prevention assemblies. Why do we need them- To prevent contamination due to back pressure and to protect the potable water system from contamination hazards.

BPAT License RequirementsImage: clipart of a man working on a pipeBPAT License: submit an application form and feeMust have a minimum of a High School or GEDComplete a 40 hour class including the practical (hands-on) skillsPass the BPAT examAcquire minimum of two years of experience

Experience RequirementsImage: backflow device Operating or maintaining a public drinking water systemInstalling or repairing residential, commercial, or industrial drinking water treatment equipmentInstalling or repairing lawn irrigation systemsPerforming activities requiring a master or journeyman plumbing license Installing or servicing fire suppression sprinkler systems and lines

Renewal RequirementsMust be renewed every three years. Application and fee ($111) must be timely submitted.24 hours for all continuing education required prior to the expiration date (8 of which must be hands-on).Renewals may be submitted online or by US mail.
