Excerpt from Penny Capitalism: A Guatemalan Indian EconomyPanajachel, more than other lake towns, occupies a place of importance on an east-west trading axis as well. There is considerable com merce between communities such as Quezaltenango and Totonicapan in the western highlands and Guatemala City to the east. One of the two main highways passes through Panajachel, and Indians afoot with their freight, or in trucks, and no little Ladino passenger travel in busses and private cars, keep the road busy. Most of the traffic simply passes through, but some of the travelers make Panajachel an overnight stop and of course a portion of the freight has its origin or its terminus here. Panajachel is the only lake town that is thus on a major cross roads.About the PublisherForgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Excerpt from An Introduction to Town Planning Now, under the Act, there are Opportunities for many persons to confer as to the development of a town, so that a scheme may be evolved for regulating its future growth. Not only Town and District Councils and the landowners, but also the Architectural and Antiquarian Societies, and those interested in Social Service, may have some part in these conferences, and it is hoped that this little book will be of use to very many who take a general interest in the subject of town planning, as well as to some who may be more directly engaged in the preparation and consideration of schemes under the Town Planning Act. Excerpt from Reconstructing IndiaIt is the spirit and intention of the Act to prepare the country for full responsible government, and it should certainly be the endeavour of the people to remove at once every stumbling block from their path and to take the most complete advantage of this new opportunity. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work.
