“If there was another prophet after me, it would have been Umar ibn al- Khattab” -Rasulullah Al Bukhari 5:38, Muslim 4:5901

Umar ibn Al Khattab

Slide2

Who is Umar- He is a noble member in the Quarish Family- He is hunter and an educated man (from the few people who can read and write).- He is the Father-in-law of Rasulullah (S) (Rasulullah PBUH married Hafsah; Umar’s daughter)- Umar married the daughter of Fatima Azzahraa- He is the second Khalifah after Abu Bakr As Siddiq- He was known to have a bad temper and well respected in Makkah

-He is very brave and

wealthy

Slide3

How he became a Muslim- Umar was mad at Rasulullah (PBUH) for insulting his religion so he decided to kill him- On his way to Rasulullah’s (PBUH) house someone told him that his sister became a Muslim- At his sister’s house he became mad and hit her. He wanted to see what she was doing. She asked him to do wudu before touching Quran. He read surat Taha and he was convinced that no man can write those words- He went to Rasulullah’s (PBUH) house to become a Muslim and declared As-Shahadah. - After Umar became a Muslim the Muslims did not pray in secret anymore

Slide4

A Staunch(loyal, faithful)Ally - Umar was a leader in battles, a leader in worship, and a leader in the inner jihad of transforming himself- Several times he would foresee the Revelation and advise Rasulullah (PBUH) about something that was soon sent down in the Quran- He was truly dedicated to pleasing Allah (SWT) and Rasulullah (PBUH)-Umar was a humble man, he did not care about money or being rich

-Umar was eager to expand the Islamic religion to different lands

Slide5

Responsible Leader Of The Ummah- After he became the 2nd Khalifa he was merciful, tender-hearted and fair- Umar used to walked around the streets of Madina every night to make sure everyone is safe and has something to eat- Umar went to Jerusalem (Al Quds) to sign the peace treaty. At prayer time, instead of praying in the Church he prayed outside so no one will would try to turn it into a Masjid in the future- Umar heard a mother arguing with her daughter adding water to the milk that they were going to sell. He was pleased with her honesty and arranged to marry her to one of his sons

-Umar came upon a lady boiling water for her kids to sleep (she didn’t have no food). He came back a little later with food, clothes, and money for her and her kids that he carried with by himself

Slide6

Umar’s Justice: Tough But Fair- An example of Umar’s justice is when someone was caught stealing. The man's explanation was he did not make enough money to support his family so Umar blamed the people living near him for not being aware of this problem- Umar established the system of government and taxes based on Quranic guidance- He also established Tarawih prayers- Umar monitored the way the governors he sent out to the new provinces lived, dressed, and behaved

- Umar had 2 lamps. When he did something for the Ummah the oil of that lamp came from the public treasury. When he worked on something for himself the oil came from his own money.

Slide7

Umar Is Assassinated - Umar was stabbed while he was leading salat al Fajr by a non-Muslim, Abu Luûluaâ Al Majussi (Zoroastrian)- killed seven more sahabah them himself- He was relieved that he was killed by a non-Muslim- When he was stabbed he told the Muslims to continue the prayer. This shows how important the prayer is

- After he was stabbed he lived for 4 more days. During this time he appointed a group of the respected companions to choose the next Khalifa and he paid his debts

- Umar was buried next to Rasulullah (PBUH) and Abu Bakr As Siddiq

Slide8

May Allah (SWT) shower his peace and blessing upon this sincere leader of the Ummah and close sahabi of Rasulullah (PBUH)
