Parallel structure also called parallelism is the repetition of a chosen grammatical form within a sentence This means using the same pattern of words to show that two or more words or ideas are of equal importance and to help the reader comprehend what is being written It is grammatically correct to ensure that phrases clauses and items on a list after a colon  use the correct parallel structure .
