Nine Steps for Overcoming Sinful Habits for LifeSlide2

1) Recognize that there is a problem.

II Corinthians

13:5

Examine yourselves, to see whether you are in the faith. Test yourselves. Or do you not realize this about yourselves, that Jesus Christ is in you?—unless indeed you fail to meet the test!Slide3

2) Pray on the spot.

Matthew 26:41

Watch and pray that you may not enter into temptation. The spirit indeed is willing, but the flesh is weak

.Slide4

3) Talk to others about overcoming sin.

James

5:16

Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another, that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working.Slide5

4) Find an accountability partner.

Galatians

6:2

Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfill the law of Christ.Slide6

5) Try different methods;

don’t give

up.

James 1:12Blessed is the man who remains steadfast under trial, for when he has stood the test he will receive the crown of life, which God has promised to those who love him.Slide7

6) Remove the triggers of sin from your life.

Matthew 18:8-9

And

if your hand or your foot causes you to sin, cut it off and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life crippled or lame than with two hands or two feet to be thrown into the eternal fire. And if your eye causes you to sin, tear it out and throw it away. It is better for you to enter life with one eye than with two eyes to be thrown into the hell of fire.Slide8

7) Replace the sinful habit with many strengthening spiritual habits.

Romans

12:9-12

Let love be genuine. Abhor what is evil; hold fast to what is good. Love one another with brotherly affection. Outdo one another in showing honor.

Do not be slothful in zeal, be fervent in spirit, serve the Lord.

Rejoice in hope, be patient in tribulation, be constant in prayer.Slide9

8) Be constantly vigilant to avoid sin.

I

Peter

5:8Be sober-minded; be watchful. Your adversary the devil prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.Slide10

9) Rejoice in your freedom and share it with others!

Luke 15:7

Just so, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who need no repentance.
