Even if you’re a bird lover or naturist, pigeons on your balcony can be a real nuisance. Aside from the noise they make and the feathers strewn all about the place, their droppings can actually be hazardous for your health. Unfortunately, pigeons are a common feature of many apartment and building complexes throughout India, and at some point in time, it’s inevitable that you’ll be facing a feathery crisis when they settle on you balcony and make it their home. Balconies are wonderful spaces that give apartment residents (and residents of many other types of homes) a chance to enjoy the outdoor air, without having to set foot outside their front door. They are often adorned with items such as furniture, plants and art, and some home owners even make them into beautiful spaces for entertaining. However, while there can be no doubt that a balcony is an appealing and useful addition to any home, there are a also a number of safety concerns involved. Apartment living has been steadily growing in popularity across India in recent decades, and it’s little wonder, with the housing needs of such a huge population to meet. However, while apartments provide millions of families with safe, modern and comfortable spaces to live in, what they often can’t replicate, is the open space offered by an individual villa or farmhouse. While many larger apartment complexes have open spaces and small parks within their compounds, this is no substitute for a private garden or courtyard in which families can grow plants, entertain and simply enjoy the outdoors. Pigeons can be a real nuisance, especially when they take a liking to your home or office building, and start making regular visits. Sometimes, those visits turn into overnighters, and before you know it, you’ve got a whole flock of pigeons cooing, performing mating rituals and making nests on your balcony or window ledge! You’ve bought a beautiful new apartment and are all set to move in. But wait, have you thought about how to make the balcony bird-proof and safe for your kids? Even if you’re a bird lover, there’s a big difference between watching birds in their own environment, and watching them make a big mess on your balcony! Widely used throughout today’s construction industry, safety nets are an integral aspect of health and safety on busy, often dangerous, construction sites. Though inexpensive as they are, safety nets remain an incredibly effective means of providing anyone on site with a safe way to work without the fear of falling or being struck by debris. High quality cricket nets enable cricketers to play the sport both indoors and outdoors, and in settings such as educational institutions, country clubs, sports clubs (and just about any location you can think of!), without the risk of balls flying through the air and hitting someone or something. While designed primarily to allow the batsmen and bowlers to improve their cricketing styles and techniques, larger scale nets can even allow for small scale games to be held. High rise apartment buildings are now a normal part of modern life in urban environments, and a familiar sight on many city’s skylines. Able to accommodate thousands of individuals and families, there are many benefits of high rise life, but what about when it comes to deciding which floor to live on? For even the most avid of birdwatchers and those who love all fauna, pigeons can bring frustration and annoyance when they’re close to your home, or even your place of work. Waking up to find a once tranquil space has been taken over by a whole bunch of cooing pigeons, and transformed into a poop and feather nightmare, isn’t ideal, and while they have as much right to share the planet with us, we really don’t want them messing up our balconies or making us sick. It’s really important to keep your apartment as safe as it can possibly be at all times, and while having strong locks on the doors might be the first thing you think of when considering safety, you should also be thinking about any balconies that are attached to your home, and whether they are secure enough and present no risk of falling or any other injury. A fruit with a variety of uses, coconut also has a high economic value in India. Symbolizing prosperity, the humble coconut is used in ceremonies, handicrafts and cooking, among others. Named by Marco Polo way back in 1280 as ‘Nux Indica’, the coconut has been around for many centuries, and is just as prized now, as it was then.
