Circumstances x2013 Guidelines for Students The Examina tion and Assessment Regulations allow s for four different methods for extenuating c ircumstances One of them applies to full time underg. g to attend an examination or to submit on the due date coursework that the student has already completed This would include something that briefl y impaired performance eg the onset of a migraine during an examination In the following tables this ty Students cannot submit extenuating circumstances for deferred First Attempt Assessments or Second Attempt Assessments They can only submit extenuating circumstances for the first attempt in an academic year There should be no cases of extenuating c cityacuk Extenuating Circumstances affecting academic performance Extenuating circumstances form and guidance notes Extenuating Circumstances EC are defined in the Universitys regulations as circumstances which are unforeseen and outside your control Extenuating Circumstances are short term circumstances that must relate to the health andor personal matters of the student which are of a sufficiently serious nature to have prevented the student from completing or submitting an assessment artefact Students must be given clear instructions eg in the Student Handbook in advance of the examination period and preferably at the start of the academic year about the procedure for making submissions about extenuating circumstances This should include Briefing . for Chairs of Extenuating Circumstances Groups and Professional Support Staff.
