About my Crossbow

On Christmas I asked for a cross bow and I got one. It is a 160 LB draw weight and shoots 340 fps. It is a really powerful crossbow. When I got it, it did not come with a scope or anything so when I shot it I would look down the rail and that’s how I aimed. I asked my dad if I can get a scope for it and he said no he said I need a red dot sight. A red dot sight is a clear lens that you look through and it has a red dot in the middle. When I got the red dot sight I could hit the bulls-eye every time.Slide3

My first kill

When I was out side shooting my crossbow I heard my dogs bark. I ran over there and my dogs were barking in a tree I could not see any thing I thought it was just a squirrel. Then a huge branch moved and I saw it. It was a huge raccoon. My mom told me to shot it and I asked her can I shoot it with my crossbow and she said yes. So I loaded up my crossbow and took aim and I hit it. The arrow was sticking out on the other side. I hit him in the higher shoulder blade. Even though it had a arrow sticking out of it, it managed to stay up in the tree. It would die after about 5 min but I wanted it down now so I loaded another bolt in and shot him right in the chest blade and he fell to the ground. I grabbed the dead raccoon with my gloves and took out the arrows figuring out that one bolt was broken because he land on that bolt when he hit the ground. The other bolt was fine though so I had my mom bleach the bolt so it was a brand new bolt. The raccoon was a huge raccoon. It was one of the biggest raccoon I ever shot.Slide4

The day it broke

At my sisters birthday party I had 2 friends over and I accidently loader the arrow wrong and it dry fired a dry fire is when you either do not have a arrow and shoot it or put the bolt in wrong and shoot it and when it dry fires the wheels at the end over rotate

causing the string to snap. So me and my dad went to gander mountain and had them fix the string and

I got new arrows, tips, and a

target. I also got razor blade tips for hunting.Slide5

I miss my Crossbow

After my crossbow broke I took it to gander mountain and they said they need to order a new string so we gave them my crossbow and they said it will take about a week to fix. Since I did not have a crossbow for a week I was really bored so I made my own. I cut down 2 little trees and I nailed them together like a “T” and I wrapped it in yarn. And that was the body. I took 2 screws and put it at the tip of the “T” and then I got really strong rubber bands and made a big rubber band and I attached each end to one screw. Then I took a saw and made a groove for the arrow. Then I put a thin slice in the back of the “T” and made a “I” shaped piece of metal and drilled it in the middle of the slice so that was the trigger. I took a old arrow and cut the wings off and put it on the track. Then I pulled up the rubber band and I hooked it on to the trigger and when I pull the trigger it launches over 100 feet! That is very impressive for a home made crossbow. Slide6

Future plans

for my Crossbow

Some day I want to go to Georgia and go hunting for deer with my crossbow. I am a very good shot and I love deer they are very delicious. I want to have a room for my crossbow and arrows. I want to have like 100

bolts

and more crossbows but I will always keep the one I have now. Every day I will shoot my crossbow because I want to be a really good shot and it is fun

. I wanted to have a tree stand and go hunting but a blind is less expensive. So I am getting a blind. A blind is a

C

amo hunting tent that you hide in and there is a little opening that you shoot out of.Slide7

What happened

After I got my crossbow back I shot it the next day and I was sighting in my scope. I finally got it pin point and I got 3 bull-eyes in a row but when I shot it again I heard a big bang and some thing wiped me in the face and I look at my crossbow and the string was broken I was so mad I knew exactly what I did, I did every thing I was supposed to do. my dad told me to put the crossbow in the car and we left that hour to go to gander mountain. The guy there said that I will send it to a manufacturing company and make sure nothing was wrong with the crossbow. I was so mad because it will take another 2 weeks to fix.Slide8

I figured it out

When I got home I went straight to my room and watched TV I was so mad. I was really bored so I organized all my bolts, arrows and my bow and arrow. I put my bow and arrow in one corner and then my home made crossbow right next to it. Then I put my broken arrows and bolts right next to it. Then my arrows then my bolts and then my pellet guns. I had the extra peace's like arrow and bolt heads and razor blade heads, extra wings, glue for the wings, and, lube wax. When I was sorting out my bolts I looked at the bolt that I shot both times when my crossbow broke and I noticed that the grooves at the back were wrong. If the odd colored wing was down like it is supposed to be the grooves were turned so the string would have missed the grooves and slip over the arrow and dry fire. That means that who ever put the arrow together did it wrong. I solved it that was what happened it was not my fault. They did not charge us so we got it fixed for free.Slide9

My boredom

I did not like how my home made crossbow was small and was made out of rubber bands so I took 2 two by fours and trimmed them and put them together. I took 2 screws that had a loop at the end and put it om each side of the body then I took a bungee cord and looped it around the hoop and I made a better trigger that is to complicated to say but all I had to do was squeeze. I pulled back the bungee cord to the trigger. It was really hard to pull up. I then took a plunger and loaded it. I fired it was so cool it went about 100 ft. now that is a crossbow.Slide10

picking it up

When I went to go pick it up the guy said he got me a brand new crossbow. It was the exact same but it was brand new. He took me in the back room so I can shoot it a little bit. He told me that I did not give him the quiver back when I did it was on the crossbow but he gave me another one any way. I also noticed that I was missing the strap so I was accused of not giving him the quiver back and now I don’t have a strap. That got me mad because now I cant carry the crossbow on my back. My dad even saw me put the quiver on the crossbow. When I got home I grabbed my crossbow and went out side and set up my target and I shot it a whole bunch. I really missed my crossbow.Slide11

Back yard crossbow plans

I know I said that I wanted to go hunting with my crossbow up in Georgia but I can do it in my back yard. My dad and me are going to buy salt blocks and a deer feeder and other thing to attract turkey and hog. I also have a hill where I am going to set up my blind to hunt in. my dad said I am going to hunt turkey and deer with my crossbow but if I see some hogs I am going to have a AR-15 with a red dot because hogs are very vicious and my dad said not to get out of my tent with out shooting them in the skull. I can not wait to go hunting. My dad and me bought a blind already, just to be prepared.Slide12

Being prepared

I know when I'm in the blind I am going to rest the AR-15 or my crossbow on a stand so I made one to practice on. I took 3 two by fours and trimmed them and put them together like this . Then I split a two by four in half and added it on in the back as a tripod like this . But it touches the ground un like the picture and then I lay my crossbow on it and it is a perfect stand. I made some paper targets that have a radios as big as your fist and a bulls-eye in the middle. I put it on my crossbow target from gander mountain because it is made so the arrow wont go through it. I was shooting from 20

yards away and every shot came with in the radios and I got a couple bulls-eyes.Slide13

hunting supplies

My dad usually comes home from NY every week on Thursday night. Since there was a snow storm in NY my dad left early and got home when I was in school. He said he would pick up my blind on his way home a few days ago. When I got home from school I saw my dad and I was not expecting him to be home. He told me to look in the truck and I ran out side and jumped in the window and I saw my blind I ran in side really excited and my dad said now go look in the back of the truck and I was confused because I did not know what else he go me. I ran out side and looked in the back of the truck and there was a tree stand, it was the one I wanted it was a double seater and was 15 Ft. high. I ran inside and gave my dad a big hung. Now I know

im ready to hunt.
