Steve McQueen – The Motion Picture
Lake Forest Entertainment has acquired the option to three biographies of Steve McQueen, written by Marshall Terrill.
"Steve McQueen: The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon"
“Steve McQueen: Portrait of an American Rebel”
“Steve McQueen: A Tribute to the King of Cool” (Foreward by Barbara McQueen)
The film will be based solely on "Steve McQueen: The Life and Legend of a Hollywood Icon" Slide4
The International Celebrity and Legend of Steve McQueen
From Producer Graham Kaye:
Working as a producer with a production deal at Paramount Pictures several years ago, our company was approached with the idea of turning the life of Steve McQueen into a film. We would be acquiring three McQueen biographies, written on the life of Steve McQueen by author Marshall Terrill. When I shared this idea with my associates, the interest was overwhelmingly positive. If we were just producers looking for great ideas and material, our company would have said “yes” immediately.
LAKE FOREST ENTERTAINMENT
However, producers’ priorities have shifted and we now must balance creative decisions with a strong business model.
Our first responsibility and consideration as a development company is to make creative decisions based on the ROI. We researched what was foremost on our minds strictly from a business standpoint. We had to ask ourselves the question:
“Is Steve McQueen still relevant today?” Slide5
Here’s What We Discovered…
Steve McQueen's fame has not diminished since his emergence as a Hollywood legend more than a half century ago. In 2012, the Los Angeles Times took a poll, “The Top 10 Coolest Actors in History”. Steve McQueen overwhelmingly was voted number one. That same year he was voted the
“Movie Star of the Century” in Japan. Steve McQueen has consistently ranked among the highest in name recognition, image recognition and cool factor; his popularity with global film audiences remains to this day almost unmatched. Steve was devoted to numerous brands and today his name recognition with product has recently brought world record setting sales of things that McQueen drove, wore, or promoted. On Madison Avenue today the Steve McQueen brand still enhances major corporations’ logos.
His trend-setting taste is still consistently referred to by the world leading fashion critics in the United States, Canada, Europe, Asia, Australia and South America. Today, the ageless “McQueen” legend continues to be the subject of multiple lead stories around the globe; several times a year we can check out what he’s wearing on the cover of the most popular magazines. The McQueen Estate has been very selective of the use of Steve’s name. However, in the recent years he has been the face for Tommy Hilfiger, Ray-Ban, and Ford, to just name a few. The corporate licensing opportunities are tremendous; extending the exposure of Steve is something that has been measured and protected to coincide with the release of the film that chronicles his life.

The Story and Screenplay
LAKE FOREST ENTERTAINMENT
Despite McQueen’s complex and explosive personality, his star status brought him great financial rewards and the freedom to indulge in his other pursuits—including cars, motorcycles and beautiful women. What made him a star? That is what the film about Steve McQueen will answer, while reaffirming the assessment that
“Women wanted to be with him, and men wanted to BE him."
The story of “McQueen” will explore the unpredictable and ultimately compelling paradox that was Steve McQueen– an actor whose talent and charisma garnered him universal adoration, yet Steve eschewed and even resented his celebrity throughout his life. McQueen was a man who could be caustic and reckless with strangers, and even friends or family, yet he was also tremendously giving and compassionate, especially to children. It was easier for those around Steve to dismiss him as a spoiled star rather than accept the reasons for the antipathy and resentment Steve McQueen showed for his chosen profession… and this crux forms the heart and soul of the “McQueen” story.Slide7
Jeremy Renner is fully committed to play the role of “Steve McQueen.”
He is currently available to begin shooting the film in early Summer 2015. In addition to his outstanding abilities as an actor and his U.S. Box Office appeal, the pre-sale estimates for Jeremy based on the title “McQueen” start at $17 million; combined with an A-List director and an A-List female co-star, the pre-sale estimates can reach $35 million. Jeremy is passionate about playing the role of “Steve McQueen” and has already done extensive research in order to immerse himself in the role. With Jeremy’s talent and involvement in the Project, we know that we have created an outstanding investment.
Jeremy Renner is best known for: “The Hurt Locker” ($49,230,772),
“The Avengers” ($1,518,594,910), “American Hustle” ($251,171,807)
“The Bourne Legacy” ($276,114,570)

Film Financing Strategies
Principal photography will likely occur in Los Angeles. We have had an ongoing dialogue with several members of the Los Angeles City Council that are involved with the Film Fund. They have encouraged us to film in Los Angeles and have said that “McQueen” qualifies for state tax incentives if shot locally. Alternatively, filming can also occur in Mississippi or Louisiana, in order to take advantage of incentives in those states. The total all-in budget will be $25,000,000. Based on the structure of financing between equity and tax incentives, a pre-distribution return of capital to the investor between 60% and 65% can be achieved before the film plays domestically. The Financier may also opt to forego foreign pre-sales to increase the Project’s foreign value by waiting until the film is complete. We already have a verbal commitment from four major studios to distribute the film. A third plan could be a co-financing arrangement with one of those major studios.

Merchandising Opportunities
LAKE FOREST ENTERTAINMENT
“Steve McQueen” as a brand is almost universally recognizable.
Early in the development of the Project, the Producers approached the Steve McQueen Estate to discuss interest in exploring new opportunities to license various uses of the McQueen image in connection with the Project. The response was overwhelmingly enthusiastic.
Fortunately, the McQueen Estate has limited the licensing of “Steve McQueen” and in doing so, they have protected the brand. In 2014, Steve McQueen ranked within the Top Ten Highest Earning Deceased Celebrities, bringing in over $9,000,000 annually—this revenue is all based on earnings received by brands that pursued the “McQueen” name. The McQueen Estate has never pursued an opportunity to use Steve’s image. When the “McQueen” film is released, the Estate agrees that increasing licensing during that time is in everyone’s best interest, so that
every ad becomes another billboard for the film. Slide14
