Did you look over the DPR/Graduation Check 101 and Department Advising Form documents and follow the directions carefully prior to this advising session?

Common problems: Quarter

Electives (including BIO 2990/4990) showing up in “Courses Not Used” area.

BIO 2400 not showing up under BIO 303 requirement.

BIO 490, being unfulfilled but you have excess UD BIO and CHM units.

BIO 211/L, BIO 325/L unsatisfied when you took STA 1300 or BIO 3250.

BIO 441/461 requirement unfulfilled

Biotechnology students will need to petition UD BIO/CHM class.

Environmental Biology students will need to petition UD BIO class.

Foundations series (BIO, PHY, or CHM) showing up in “Courses Not Used” area.

Transfer credit not articulating correctly (CHM 3140/L, BIO 1210/L, etc.)

UNLESS YOU ARE GRADUATING THIS IMMEDIATE SEMESTER, you may not petition STA 120/1200 for STA 1300 or BIO 2110L

Some common petitions

Course Substitution or Acceptance of Transfer Coursework

If you have a course that you think should fulfill a certain requirement but has not due to it transferring over incorrectly or not having an official articulation agreement on assist.org (e.g. your BIO class came transferred over as BIO 1150/L instead of BIO 1210/L or your Organic Chemistry did not get credited for, etc.).

Gather your evidence that your class should count for the area you are claiming (e.g. transcripts, course description, syllabus, articulation agreement from assist.org, etc.).

If it is related to a course outside of the BIO Department, contact the relevant department first to get approval from them before e-mailing

Once you email us, we can initiate the petition(s) on our end.

You will receive a separate e-mail for each petition if you had more than one course that needed the petition. This email will direct you to upload documents, etc.

Then it will go off to the relevant advisors and Chair to be approved. Any enquiries about the petition once you’ve submitted all the required documents will have to be directed to the Registrar’s Office.

General Academic Petition E-Form

If you have AP credit that didn’t get accounted for or if you need a course moved from one area to fulfill another (e.g. move course from “Courses Not Used” to relevant area, designate courses from Non-Emphasis Electives to Emphasis Electives, etc.).

Email bio_advisor@cpp.edu and explain your issue thoroughly.

The department advisor will initiate the petition.

You will receive a confirmation e-mail of the petition and courses being petitioned.

This will be sent to other departments for approval. Any enquiries about the petition once it is initiated will have to be directed to the Registrar’s Office.

There is a document there is a document called “Common Petition Information” that describes what petition is need for what situation under the link to the Registrar’s website for forms. Other forms and information on other petitions can be found on the Registrar’s website. MOST are e-forms now!

at least the DPR/Graduation Check 101 form, please stay for your questions/concerns.

If you did not complete either, please take a look at the documents and fill-out/follow the directions in the documents. Then e-mail us your questions/concerns along with the documents.
