The images painted bythe Aesthetes did not tell stories orpreach sermons; their sculptures werevisual, tactile delights, hinting atsensual pleasures; their poetry aimed to be "pure".The same spirit extended toengraving, bookbinding, fashionand photography, and above allinfluenced all forms of thedecorative arts. The aim was totransform the banal andpretentious furnishings ofmiddle-class Victorian homes byintroducing furnishings worthy ofthe name "Art Furniture", byproducing, ceramics, textiles,wallpapers and other objects of aquality that would grace thehomes of the Aesthetes.The Early Aesthetic CirclesThe Movement was initiallyformed from two small, relativelyhomogenous groups who wereintricately linked.
