SENSATION

On

the blue summer evenings, I shall go down the paths,
Getting pricked by the corn, crushing the short grass:
In a dream I shall feel its coolness on my feet.
I shall let the wind bathe my bare head.

I shall not speak, I shall think about nothing:
But endless love will mount in my soul;
And I shall travel far, very far, like a gipsy,
Through the countryside - as happy as if I were with a woman.

Arthur Rimbaud
March 1870. Slide17

SENSATION (French)

Slide18

EXPLICATION

Sensation

was

one of the

Arthur’s

most

famous

poems

This

poem

was

writen

when

Rimbaud

was

sixteen

,

just

before

his

first

diparture

to Paris.

In

this

poem

,

we

find

a

teenager’s

soul

looking

for

happiness

and escape.

Desire

to

leave

the

family’s

environment

,

find

freedom

, nature and

travels

.

A lot of

sensuality

,

even

though

if Rimbaud

prefers

find

it

with

the nature

than

with

a

woman

…Slide19

COMMENTS OR CRITICS

«

When

I first

began

reading

Rimbaud, I

already

knew

a

great

deal about

his

life and

identified

whis

his

vulgar

attitude

toward

society.

His

affinity

for

poets

like

Baudelaire are

obvious

indications

that

Arthur

was

attracted

to the

darker

side

of living.

This

was

the

method

to

his

inspiration for

writing

. »

“If

u r looking for a true

rebel..a

constant disclaimer of world orthodoxy then

rimbaud

is the closest you can get................

morever

he was young, vibrant and too close to dream than reality.........unashamed of his thoughts, profane at times but nonetheless a genius who wrote with no qualm whatsoever
