WHAT IS HAPPENING?In the year of 1964, Hobart and William Smith College students faced two dilemmas. These dilemmas led to mass criticisms of the student body using words such as “apathetic” and “unserious.” Through these criticisms, based on their situations, art was formed with a sense of retaliation.Slide4

STUDENT REACTIONS SEEN IN LITERATURE

Students showed that they could be as frivolous as they pleased, seen in this story of a boy trying to get a girl, ending up with her, and having his teasing sister on a leash.

Not only did the students create frivolous works, but they also created art that characterized the feeling of what being told to change constantly brought.Slide9

SO WHAT???If a whole group is scolded for the actions and faults of a few indivuals, what are the consequences/reactions?

People act differently to being criticized. If people recognized this, especially with teenagers, unnecessary changes to a person would not occur. The world would be a better place, and the year of 1964, at HWS Colleges, exemplifies the problem.Slide10
