Lead Mining. Panning involved is the use of a pan. Some gravelled water is shovelled into the pan and then shaking it around. Then the panner looks to see if there is any gold left in the bottom or amongst the gravel.Slide3
The Sluice Box was a runway made of wood to let water flow downhill. It became deeper, and had riffles at the bottom to catch the gold left behind after the dirt was washed away.Slide4
Cradling involved washed dirt and water being tipped into the sieve at the top while the wooden cradle was rocked. The turning motion washed away sand, leaving the gold trapped behind ridges at the bottom. Slide5
Dredging was any device, machine, or scoop used to remove material from the bottom of water. A dredger can be a scoop attached to the end of a rope or pole by which a person draws sediments up from the bottom of the water to find gold.Slide6
Deep Lead Mining or deep pit mining involved drilling deep into the ground to look for gold.
