1. Prepare Week of Ash Wednesday 28 FebruaryTo 4 March 2022

2. Sunday Gospel: Luke 6: 39-45Jesus told a parable to his disciples: ‘Can one blind person guide another? Surely both will fall into a pit? The disciple is not superior to his teacher; the fully trained disciple will always be like his teacher. Why do you observe the splinter in your sister’s eye and never notice the plank in your own? How can you say to your sister, “Sister, let me take out the splinter that is in your eye,” when you cannot see the plank in your own? Hypocrite! Take the plank out of your own eye first, and then you will see clearly enough to take out the splinter that is in your sister’s eye. ‘There is no sound tree that produces rotten fruit, nor again a rotten tree that produces sound fruit. For every tree can be told by its own fruit: people do not pick figs from thorns, nor gather grapes from brambles. A good person draws what is good from the store of goodness in their heart; a bad person draws what is bad from the store of badness. For someone’s words flow out of what fills their heart.’Is there a situation in your life at the moment where it's possible you haven't first taken the log out of your own eye? Might you be in a position today of seeing clearly enough to take a speck out of your neighbour's eye? Spend some time in prayer with this now.

3. Monday 28th MarchWhat are you going to give up for Lent? This is often the question asked at the beginning of the week of Ash Wednesday. I don’t know about you, but this question makes me want to run away! Give up… What if we look at this Lent through a new Lens… Let’s flip the question on it’s head… Continue on the next slide

4. Let’s take the rest of today having a think about what more I can do…More Gentleness with myself or others, maybe? More Excellence in my studies, perhaps? How about offering Companionship to someone who needs it? Is there a cause for Justice I could possibly do something about? Can I pray for an increase of Hope, in our seemingly hopeless world? What about Dignity can I help it grow in our school by respecting others and by fostering a good sense of self-worth? What am I going to embrace, do more of, be grateful for or enjoy?Monday 28th March

5. Shrove Tuesday 1st March Fat Tuesday/Mardi Gras Pancake TuesdayCarnival! Celebrate! Traditionally, today marks the end of the Carnival season in many parts of the world. Carnival, believe it or not, started way back on Epiphany at the beginning of January! The word ‘shrove’ is a word from the Middle-ages meaning to confess… to get rid of… The meaning soon morphed into getting rid of foods that weren’t eaten during Lent: eggs, sugar, butter. So as not to be wasteful, Shrove Tuesday became a last day of eating loads of good food. It’s known as Fat Tuesday or Mardi Gras in USA and other countries … Here in the U.K. it’s called Pancake Tuesday!

6. Making room for more…Sometimes we need to let something go, so we can take something on… Is there something in your daily life that gets in the way of you being your best self? Would now be the right time to let that thing go so you can embrace a better you?Today have a think about your best self and enjoy some tasty pancakes! Tuesday 1st March

7. Ash Wednesday 2nd MarchToday, ashes are thumbed onto our forehead as a sign that we are human, fragile, and will sometimes get it wrong. They are also an invitation to turn away from sin and believe in the Gospel, the Good News of Jesus Christ who loved us to the end.Ash Wednesday begins the season of Lent, forty days of reflection andaction: prayer, fasting from what’s not good for us and almsgiving. The colour is violet. The volume is turned down, the Alleluia is put away, the Gloria is unplugged. Time to go deeper. We pray and fast and give alms to the needy so that we can come closer to God and our neighbour, to the presence of love that is never far from us.Dear Lord, may we be open this Lent to your love, so that we may know we are reconciled to you, that we are friends.Amen.

8. Wednesday 2nd March: Global day of fasting and prayer for peace in UkraineHoly and Gracious God,We pray for the people of Ukraine and the people of Russia; for their countries and their leaders. We pray for all those who are afraid; that your everlasting arms hold them in this time of great fear.We pray for all those who have the power over life and death; that they will choose for all people life, and life in all its fullness. We pray for those who choose war; that they will remember that you direct your people to turn our swords into ploughshares and seek for peace. We pray for leaders on the world stage; that they are inspired by the wisdom and courage of Christ.Above all, Lord, today we pray for peace for Ukraine. And we ask this in the name of your blessed Son, Jesus Christ. Amen

9. Thursday 3rd MarchWe pray…Loving God, we thank you for the gift of books and for the gift of education so that we can enjoy them.We thank you for writers, poets and journalists. We pray for people around the world who do not have the opportunity to learn to read or to enjoy all the books they would like to. Please help us to play our part in making the world a fairer place for everyone. We make this prayer through Jesus Christ, our Lord, who is the Word of God,Amen.

10. Thursday 3rd MarchDear God, We give you thanks for the beauty of our English language, for our ability to communicate through speaking and writing. We give you thanks for the gift of literature, for poets and authors such as C.S. Lewis, Geoffrey Chaucer, William Shakespeare, Jane Austen, the Brontë sisters, Charles Dickens, William Blake, George Orwell, and many more… who stimulate our imagination, expand our own vocabulary, take us to places of magic, give us inspiring role models, teach us new ways of thinking and connect us to people from all over the world, dead and alive… We pray that we may always appreciate this. Amen.

12. Friday 4th March – Let’s Examen our weekReflect on this. I am created in the image of a God who is One. I am unique. The Father loves me personally. I thank God for who I am. Take a moment to breathe this in… Give Thanks. I thank God for this week, for my life, for all I am and have.2. Pray for Light. I ask the Father to let me see my week as the Holy Spirit sees it, and to show me what I need to see.3. Find God. I look at my week in the light of the Spirit.Where have I been GENTLE? Where did I show kindness and COMPANIONSHIP to someone in need? Where I promoted the DIGNITY my own and that of another? Where have I seen the face of God this week? Take a moment to say thanks…4. Anything Wrong?Have I failed at EXCELLENCE failed to live JUSTICE? Have I been tempted to give up HOPE? Speak to God for a moment about this, say sorry… Ask for God’s help…5. What Now?What do I need from God for the remainder of today? What do I need to do tomorrow? Next week?
