CAIRNS HOCKEY ACADEMY – 2019 TIME TO REFRESH
2019 CAIRNS HOCKEY ACADEMY FULLY LOADED AND DESIGNED TO CATER ALL SKILLS LEVELS
CAIRNS HOCKEY ACADEMY A BRIEF SUMMARY Originally created to support an out of season program to advance skill development of players and coaches This was at a time there was Summer6’s as a social alternative but no Indoor Hockey and no advancement programs between hockey seasons Originally U/11 to Under 18 4 afternoons a week before Summer 6’s No Hockey Qld development programs being delivered at this time that Cairns Hockey players and coaches would attend When the Academy Program was passed to Matt Cook – the idea was to split and have an after season Academy for Under 11 and Under 13 and a pre season Academy for Under 15 and Under 18 Indoor Hockey, Qld Trials and Summer programs all combined to make after season programs very busy including additional Hockey Qld talent development When it was passed to Wesley Ferns – no change to program but the environment had changed Cairns Hockey now has a stronger talent pathways program created through past Academy Programs with 2018 seeing the greatest number of Queensland and Australian Selections from Cairns Region. In addition many players have been in rep programs for multiple years which means the difference in skill sets in Academy age groups has increased and it is becoming too hard to cater for all needs. TIME TO REVIEW
