My number one career choice:

My number two career choice:

an Irish dance teacher

Requirements:

I

would have to make it to open-championship level (Place in all five minimum advanced beginner dances (Reel, light Jig, Slip jig, Treble jig, Hornpipe/Treble reel), place in all five minimum dances as a novice, place (in open/prizewinner level) in the preliminary and open championships), then I would have to be certified by the TCRG, which means I would have to meet the following requirements:

“Part one

the candidate must be able to dance and teach the following 7 dances:

1. Beginner Light Reel (32 bars)

2. Beginner Light Jig (32 bars)

3. Beginner Slip Jig (32 bars)

4. Beginner Single Jig (32 bars)

5. Beginner Hornpipe (32 bars)

6. Beginner Treble Jig (32 bars)

7. St Patrick's Day (30 bars)

Part Two

The candidate must be able to dance and teach the following 6 dances:

1. Primary Light Reel (32 bars)

2. Primary Slip Jig (32 bars)

3. Primary Hornpipe (32 bars)

4. Primary Treble Jig (32 bars)

5. The Blackbird (30 bars)

6. Jockey to the Fair (30 bars)

Part Three

The candidate must be able to dance and teach the following 7 dances:

1. Intermediate/Open Light Reel (32 bars)

2. Intermediate/Open Slip Jig (32 bars)

3. Intermediate/Open Hornpipe (32 bars)

4. Intermediate/Open Treble Jig (32 bars)

5. Job of Journeywork (30 bars)

6. Garden of Daisies (32 bars)

7. King of the Fairies (32 bars)

Part Four: Music Examination

The candidate must identify twenty set dance tunes, their timing and the number of bars in the step and the number of bars in the set. The candidate must submit the names of six set dances, three of which must be in jig timing and three in hornpipe timing. The candidate must be prepared to dance three of them for the benefit of the examiners. Of the requested dances one will definitely be in jig time and one in hornpipe time with the third dance in timing chosen by the examiners. None of the six submitted set dances can be a traditional set dance e.g. St. Patrick's Day.

Upon satisfactory and successful completion of the four parts of the Step Dance Teachers Examination the candidate will be awarded their certification with the World Irish Dance Association.”- World Irish Dance Association.

Pay:

Being an Irish dance teacher, assuming I start my own school, would pay $70-$150 per child per quarter, not including if the children rent costumes, or subtracting studio rental, this is not much considering how sparse Irish dancers are in the area, and my lack of enterprising skills would
