In the army you get a special allowance if you grow a moustache because the army believes that the moustache enhances a male personality, gives him confidence and polishes his ego. They do not encourage beards because that comes in the way of wearing a helmet. Only the Sikh Regiment is allowed beard on religious grounds provided they use fixos. It is interesting to know the varieties of moustaches that the doctors like. Long whiskers look unkempt and wild and gives one a very masculine look. Walrus type needs looking after with regular brushing and even starching, to make it pointy.
