2. Reporting RequirementPer Montana Statute all injuries must be reported to your immediate supervisor within 30 days.Failure to report the injury within 30 days may result in a denial of the claim. The notice must include the time and place where the accident occurred and the nature of the injury. The 30 day notice does not apply to occupational diseases or repetitive conditions. The reporting guideline for these conditions is 1 year from the date the employee knows or should have know the condition is work related. Please report all injuries, no matter how minor and even if treatment is not immediately needed, to ensure the 30 day reporting requirement is protected. To ensure compliance file a First Report of Injury form as soon as possible after injury.

3. How To File A ClaimThe First Report of Injury form is available on the University of Montana HRS website at” https://firstreportinjury.mus.edu/Once you have completed your First Report of Injury Form, an email will go to your supervisor with a link to complete the supervisory portion. The First report of Injury Form will then come to me and I will forward to the adjuster to set up the claim.

7. MUS Work Comp SystemMontana University System is self-insured for Workers Compensation. All claims are processed and managed by adjusters at our third party administrator, Intermountain Claims. As the Workers Compensation Manager, my role is to assist you through the claims process.I am located in Lommasson 252. My office is always open!

8. Medical BenefitsOnce Intermountain Claims has accepted your injury or occupational disease claim, you are entitled to reasonable doctor, hospital, prescription and medical care costs.Emergency Room versus Now Care/ Walk In ClinicsAllowable charges are paid according to a medical fee schedule. You do not have to pay a balance or co-pay.You may choose your initial treating physician. However, at any time after acceptance of the claim, your adjuster may designate a different treating physician or approve your choice of treating physician.Medical benefits terminate 60 months after the date of injury or diagnosis of an occupational disease. An employee may request reopening of terminated medical benefits through the Department of Labor within five years of termination.

9. Wage Loss BenefitsIf your physician takes you completely off work as a result of your injury or occupational disease and your claim has been accepted by Intermountain Claims, you may be eligible for temporary total wage loss benefits.Wages are not payable unless you have missed 4 working shifts, or 32 hours of work whichever is less.If you are totally disabled and unable to work for 21 days or longer, the 4 day waiting period may be paid retroactively. You can also use sick or annual leave to cover wages during the 4 day waiting period. If your physician releases you to work with restrictions you may be entitled to temporary partial disability benefits while you are working with restrictions or restricted hours and until you are released to return to your pre-injury duties.

10. Early Return To Work/Stay At WorkIf you are injured on the job and released to work with restrictions, we will work with you, your supervisor and your doctor to determine if temporary modifications can be made to allow you to work during your transition to full duty. Please obtain an updated Medical Status form at each exam. This communication from your doctor will indicate if you can come back to work, and if so will outline any work restrictions related to your work injury.Ability to accommodate restrictions will depend on the type of work and the availability of light duty work in your department.
