While many of these calls are not actual emergencies citizens are still using 911 to call the police. This results in an overloaded 911 system which couldslow down response times. The same dedicated staff that answers 911 calls also answers this number and can assist youin requesting an officer or transfer you to the appropriate city service Remember, calling 911 does not get you a faster police response, but requires our communication officersfollow protocols that guide callers through a sequence of questions to quickly obtain information necessary for dispatching the right responders to the right location. Here are some examples of nonemergency calls:Crimes that are delayed and no immediate threat existsGraffiti callsLoose AnimalsNeighbor disputesNoise Complaints (loud music / fireworks)Improperly Parked vehiclesAdvice from an OfficerCivil Matters If you are unsure if your situation is an emergency, dial 911 mistake, or if a child in your home dials 911 when no emergency exists,do not hang that could make officials think that an emergency existsand send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the communication officerwhat happened. As always, the Harlingen Police Department is here to serve you keepingour community safe. or more information on 911 servicevisit www.911.gov Chiefof Police Michael Kester Assistant Chief Miryam Anderson Executive Staff Deputy Chief Hector Leal Deputy Chief Daniel Villarreal Deputy Chief Alfredo Alvear Civilian Police Administrator Carlos Cantu Executive Staff PIO Commander David Osborne Public Information PIO Staff Commander John Parrish Sergeant Larry Moore Officer Orlando Gonzales
