My Bio Data
I remember going on a school trip to Mount Ruapehu. I knew how fun and challenging it was to climb a mountain. When I was around 25 years old I had climbed a lot of challenging mountains. They were mostly in the Southern Alps. Slide4
Starting of Everest Expedition
A British expedition (led by Sir John Hunt) invited 20 top mountain explorers in the world, including me. In 1953 Hunt, his crew and me set camp 1,100 feet (33,528 CM) from the summit. Slide5
During The Everest Expedition
After we set camp, two of my camp friends tried to climb up to the summit but they failed after nearly reaching it. Sadly they died and didn’t come back to camp. Then Hunt asked me and Sherpa Tensing Norgay to try to reach the summit. Slide6
The Day Of Truth
Then in the morning (11:30 exactly) of May 19th, 1953, Tensing and I succeeded in reaching the summit of Mount Everest (the highest spot on earth) at 29,028 feet (884,773.44 CM)!. After I successfully reached the summit, I became famous world wide. But sadly I passed away in my house in Auckland at age 88. Slide7
