WELCOME FRIENDS, This is Flat Stanley from Hawaii. I am visiting the Island Of Oahu. Right now I am at the Ala
Moana
Beach…Yeah!!!!Slide3
Ala
Moana
is beautiful…Behind me are paddlers racing in Outrigger CanoesSlide4
Ala
Moana
has some very strange trees like the Chinese Banyan to the left…
… and the big, fat Baobab Tree, like the one in the story “The Little Prince”. Read The Little Prince and find out what he thinks of the Baobab.Slide5
…and of course, Hawaii has lots of Coconut Trees…. Look up “Ala
Moana
” on the internet and learn more about this wonderful beach and park.Slide6
Ala
Moana
is very close to Diamond Head. Search “Diamond Head” on the internet to learn more about his beautiful crater….Slide7
Diamond Head is in Waikiki. Here is a far shot of Waikiki. Waikiki has lots of hotels for tourist. I stayed in the tallest one…do you see it? Look up Waikiki on the internet and see all the fun things you can do thereSlide8
A phone booth in Waikiki, I wanted to call you but I did not have your phone number : (Slide9
Here is another view of Waikiki from another Beach Park called
KewalosSlide10
Kewalos
has a very strange Statue. I need to search the internet to find out more about it. Slide11
One of the best things about Hawaii is the food.
Mmmmmm
…here I am eating some Hawaiian food. From the bottom left…Lau Lau;
Kalua
Pig;
Pipikaulua
;
Lomi
Lomi salmon,
Haupia
and Poi. Look each one up on the internet to learn about them. Also look up Luau and
Imu
. The Lau Lau and
Kalua
Pig are cooked in an
Imu
. Slide12
People in Hawaii love seafood. And they love to eat it as POKE. POKE IS RAW…
eeeeuuuuue
!!!!!! To the left is Poke Octopus and Poke Crab. The Octopus is cooked but the crab is not.
To the right is Poke Fish…all of them are raw!!!!! Want to try some? I did and it was delicious!!!!Slide13
Who knows what this is? Hint: It has the word apple in it but it is definitely not an apple. Slide14
This is Pearl Harbor, a major Naval Base. The white building in the middle of the water is the Arizona Memorial. Look up Arizona Memorial and Pearl Harbor to learn about their historic significance. Slide15
Nanakuli
is another Beach Park I went to. This one has a lot of Tide Pools. See the children playing on the Tide Pool? They have to be careful as it can be dangerous. Slide16
When the tide goes out, the water stays in the tide pools. There are lots of sea animals that live in the tide pool like fishes, snails…… Slide17
… and crabs. Here is the shell of a crab. Did you know that crabs shed their shells as they get too big for them? Search Tide Pool and crab on the internet to learn more. Slide18
Tide Pools are very shallow, no sharks. So it was safe enough for me to swim. Here I am swimming in one of the smaller Tide Pool. Slide19
Yes, Hawaii has some of the most beautiful beaches in the world. This is
Maili
BeachSlide20
And as the sunsets, I am off to another part of the world…
Hmmmm
, wonder where I should go next? I’ll send you photographs when I get there. Bye for now, be safe, be smart and study hard, learning is FUN!Slide21
