Falsified Medicines: A Issue of Public Health… Available figures indicate that falsified medicines represent over 10% of the medicines world markets. In Central and Western Africa the percentage can reach over 50%.The problem is spreading worldwide due particularly to the growing of sales on line . At the European borders, falsified medicines accounted for 10.10 % of the customs seizures in 2013 (1.33 % en 2006). …and Transnational Organized Crime Organized crime does not only include crime syndicates like Mafia, Triads or Yakuza but also groups of criminals define by the UN Convention against organized crime: more than 2 people gathered to intentionally perpetrate in concert one or several criminal acts.Organized crime is involved in the manufacturing of falsified medicines (corruption, shell companies), transit (contraband, fake documents) and distribution (corruption, fake documents, shell companies)5A project funded by European Union and implemented by a consortium leads by CivipolSlide6

Specific ObjectivesBased on the Medicrime Convention, promotion or update of existing legislative framework related to the production and circulation of falsified medicinesDevelopment of a national strategy and strengthening of interagency cooperation ; improvement of cross border cooperation through the creation of a network of single focal points Enhancement of judicial expertise, investigation, collection and analysis of information Awareness raising campaign on the risks related to the use of falsified medicines.7A project funded by European Union and implemented by a consortium leads by CivipolSlide8

Activities Training workshops with key stake holders for law-making to highlight best legislative practices, Training on specific techniques of investigation for law enforcement officers (police, customs, gendarmerie),Seminars for pharmacists inspectors and forensic analysts at national quality control laboratories, Training on the specific legislation procedures regarding falsified medicines for magistrates, Engagement with the main actors in designing and implementing awareness raising campaigns8A project funded by European Union and implemented by a consortium leads by CivipolSlide9
